Anna and G On The Road have been on the move looking for interesting places and shops along the way...with Enzo also! As we left the Kite Festival in Long Beach, Washington and headed down to Sauvie Island for some quiet time, I researched if there was anything interesting along the way. Having a smart phone/iPad makes hunting for quilt stops as we travel so much easier! Thus, we discovered Halloween Town or as the US Map calls it St. Helens, Oregon. St. Helen's is a Columbia River Town which was a stop on the Lewis & Clark Expedition. It was so named for its view of the active Volcano St. Helen's. But, its current claim to fame is as a movie backdrop for "Halloweentown" a 1998 Disney film featuring the late Debbie Reynold's and the Twilight Series (Bella's house is in town). The town of St. Helen's has embraced its reputation as a place where one can enjoy the spirit of Halloween with a month long celebration!

The celebration draws ghouls from all over the world to participate in pumpkin lighting ceremonies, a Monster Dash, and Haunted House Tours to name a few. And, can I say again...it is a month long celebration! Which of course includes a Quilt Show that has a Halloween themed section. As we drove down the Columbia River Highway a quilt shop sign caught our attention which meant a stop at Fibers & Stitches.



We will have a video of the shop on the Quilt Roadies but, let me tell you it was bustling with quilter's working on projects. There are two open sew days a week where quilters from around the area can gather, share, and maybe make some headway on their projects. The shop has a variety of fabrics, but naturally being near St. Helen's, the Halloween selection is popular! The Colombia River Piecemakers Guild Show (an every other year show) is on Oct. 13th this year and features a "Stitchin in Halloweentown" exhibit with many of the local quilters working hard to finish their entries! Mary Ann's interpretation of the Halloween quilt by Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin is sure to be a contender!!
