A spider web door banner from WeAllSew.com.

Joanne writes, "A recent trip to the craft store provided me with some spooky cute, sparkly inspiration for a Halloween door banner. The pack of glittery plastic spiders and some textured black “scrubby” novelty yarn would be the perfect embellishment to sew Halloween theme onto a simple cotton panel. Even with just days until Halloween, this is a quick and easy project to complete in just an hour or “sew”."

Persistence, by Margaret Solomon Gunn, was chosen as Best Wall Quilt at the Pacific International Quilt Festival 2018. She writes, "This original design was an act of persistence from the quilting with contrasting threads to the funky binding. Sometimes the quilter needs to play!"

We wish our quilts came out like this masterpiece when we just needed to play!

Justin and I just received an amazing comfort quilt. The quilt is called "It Will Be Green Again" and it is an encouraging reminder to us that in time our forest will recover from the wildfire. The blocks were made by members of the Victoria Quilters' Guild in Victoria, BC Canada. The quilt was assembled by Daphne Greig, who also made the amazing back of the quilt. While I've certainly participated in comfort quilts before, this is the first I've been on the receiving end. We are overwhelmed, thankful, and humbled.

Thank you Victoria Quilters' Guild for your kindness. We love the quilt and will treasure it forever.

We would also like to give a big shout and thanks to Caren Gorden and hubby for bringing 24 pine trees to Quilt Luminarium in La Veta. They were planted this past weekend. The mother tree is on their property and these babies will be a treasure for many years. Two of those trees are now named Victoria and Daphne.

WE WANT TO SEE YOU SOON!

The INTERNATIONAL MINIATURE QUILT EXCHANGE Exhibition

SPONSORED BY THE QUILT SHOW

Over 840 quilters participated in the International Miniature Quilt Exchange, representing over 30 countries from around the world. We partnered a US quilter with an International Quilter to exchange miniature quilts and submit their quilts and stories for the IMQE Exhibition.

We have selected 23 teams, of the over 300 team submissions, to have their quilts and stories shown in a special exhibition at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. Once the doors open to the public TQS can share pictures of the extraordinary quilts and their stories with you – so stay tuned!

The IMQE exhibition will open on November 8 with a preview on November 7. Be sure and stop by the Exhibition! Take a selfie with your favorite quilt and post it to #TheQuiltShowIMQE on Instagram.  We are very excited to host this very special show and share it with TQS.

What Was The Inspiration for IMQE?

St. Louis quilter, Jean Ameduri had an idea. She was the Quilt Show Chairperson for the 2001 Thimble and Thread Quilt Show. It was on the cusp of the new millennium and she wanted a spectacular theme for her show: quilts from around the world. Her challenge was how to get quilts from around the world to her show. The solution? Go Small!

Jean, a world traveler, reached out to her quilting contacts across the globe. The results were fantastic. Forty-three guild members participated and in the end, over three hundred miniature quilts were exchanged with quilters from 22 countries. The special exhibit was a huge success.

We will be there Wednesday night, November 7, with Jean, so be sure to stop by.

Participants and TQS Members are welcome to meet at the IMQE exhibit at 1 o'clock PM every day to exchange stories and greet internet friends in person.

Martha Scott is a long time member of TQS and began quilting in 2006. She learned to love appliqué and fell in love with the art. This past September her quilt, Enchanted Village, won 1st Place Wall Quilts: Appliquéd Quilts at AQS QuiltWeek Fall Paducah 2018.

Congratulations Martha!

Martha's quilt will be featured in the January issue of The American Quilter Magazine and you can watch her discuss the quilt with Bonnie Browning in the AQS video at the bottom of this blog.

Enzo, G, and I have been plotting and organizing for our next Quilt Roadie Adventure! The hardest part for G is planning the route, but for me...it is what to pack from the Bee Hive. The thought of not having a sewing machine makes me break out in a cold sweat...so, the Featherweight is already packed. Although I do not have a clue what piecing projects will make the cut. I am leaning towards making this an epic stitching adventure! Which means lots of BOM handwork. If I do this, a good portion of my mobile sewing room storage will be for thread! Since I will be a captured audience in the the truck, I may be able to make some stitching progress. I have 4 BOMs (Block of the Months) that I would be so tickled to make some good progress on, Buttermilk Basin, Sue Spargo, Yoko Saito and Sylvia Pippen! I shall be traveling in the company of Rock Stars :)

With this as a possible plan, I will need to make the days and weeks leading up to "take off" filled with prepping. Having projects prepped makes the journey more satisfying and less messy. So stay tuned for future prepper videos on Quilt Roadies!

And just so you know that my "To Do" list can occasionally have a finished item, here is a wonderful project, perfect for traveling. Winter Wonderland by Buttermilk Basin. The embroidery blocks are small, they use only one color of thread, and if you use Pellon SF101 on the back, you don't even need a hoop to embroider...which means this is a great car or plane project!

Looking forward to stitching with some of you on the road!
