Persistence, by Margaret Solomon Gunn, was chosen as Best Wall Quilt at the Pacific International Quilt Festival 2018. She writes, "This original design was an act of persistence from the quilting with contrasting threads to the funky binding. Sometimes the quilter needs to play!"

We wish our quilts came out like this masterpiece when we just needed to play!

I'm sorry but I just can't let this pass . . . someone said "no excitement"???? ? This quilt would knock your socks off. I find it exciting and fantastic in every way. I don't believe there's anything in the rules about piecing or applique . . . a quilt just needs to be "quilted" and this one was . . . in spades!!

For those who asked... this is a wholecloth, that means no piecing (one solid piece or fabric) with no applique. I think Margaret's method of providing detail and color variation using thread only is fantastic! Additionally, Margaret works almost exclusively with Robert Kaufman's Radiance for her wholecloth quilts. Radiance (although withdrawn from marketing) is a silk/cotton blend.

If you are not familiar with her work, you can Google her or her business name 'Mainely Quilts'.
