Inspired by a 19th Century stenciled ceiling in Sussex England, Mariya Waters wanted to make a Christmas quilt representing Australia's Christmas...no snowflakes and crystals...but stunning appliqué flowers and over the top quilting by Gina Perkes-Tidwell. Mariya wanted to celebrate her garden in full bloom over the holiday season. A Summer Christmas was begun in 2006 and completed in 2019.

A Summer Christmas by Mariya Waters and Gina Perkes-Tidwell was on display as part of the Appliqué Large exhibit at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2019.
