"Have a peek into my first week of my 8 week journey out west. Then view a tutorial on a tiny little art piece called Lil' Airstream (See below video). Limited kits are available on my Etsy store at AnnMyhreDesigns, more to come when I get back to Denver in March. Or, as always, you can use up bits of this and that!"

Spring Is in the Air by Noriko Nozawa was created using a number of different techniques including cross-stitch and a 'lace-like' embroidery on the border that almost makes it look like a delicate handkerchief. Take a look at all the details. There are close-ups galore.

Spring Is in the Air won First Place, Alternative Techniques, sponsored by Madeira Thread, at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2019.

A familiar name won Best of Show at Road to California 2020. Not only was she challenged to use plaid, but she matched up all the seams. And guess what? This artist will be joining us at our first taping in our new studios in Dallas!

We are getting close ups for you. Keep your eyes on the newsletter.

Congratulations to Marilyn Badger and Christmas in St. Andrews!

It's almost time for Road to California!

Some of you might remember when we found all of these license plates in the "Road to California" parking lot in 2010. Once again showing that creativity has no bounds, we present Quilters Hit the Road.

Lilo recently visited the European Patchwork Meeting in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, France and discovered a wonderful exhibit they were featuring there. Swiss quilt group patCHquilt was celebrating their thirtieth anniversary by putting on a showcase of 100 challenge quilts for the occasion. The challenge was open to all members of the group of every skill level and each quilt had to adhere to the following criteria:

  • Works must be original, not from a kit and must include a red border.
  • They must be 30 cm wide, 120 cm long, and displayed portrait style.
  • The quilt must include at least 1/2 of the Edelweiss fabric (that each person received), and feature a piece of that same fabric that is 10 cm x 10 cm in size.

To join in the celebration with patCHquilt, we will be featuring four of the challenge quilts each week that were displayed as part of the exhibition at the European Patchwork Meeting.

Please enjoy the next four quilts from Mirka Vanek Edelweiss, Monique Bongard-Stalder, Monique Huber, and Nelli Textor.

Not much to report this week. But, Anna and G on the road is heading down to the Road to California!! All 50 states and several foreign countries are represented during this amazing show that takes place at the Ontario Convention Center. In it's 25th year, this show is working on being the best ever! Although there will be over 225 vendors, I swear I am going just to view the quilts!

Just to give you a taste of the standard of quilts on display...here are a couple of previous winners!

Catherine Butterworth's quilt won Best Piecing 2018 and I can see why...I can only dream of piecing with such precision.

And this quilt was a winner in 2018 for Outstanding Artistry by Lenore Crawford!

The show runs from January 23 - 26, 2020 and the show guide is 12 pages long...which means 12 pages of fun! And as I look through the show guide I am excited to see the quilt that will garner the top prize of $10,000! That is a whole lot of vendor shopping for that winner, LOL.

I hope you will check back in next week when I will have some close ups of The Road to California!

Stay tuned and travel along with us on Quilt Roadies.

Heather Pregger may be the first person to take a First Place ribbon in both the Abstract, Large category and the Art-Abstract Small category at the same show.

Shock Melt won First Place, Art-Abstract Small at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2019 and her quilt, Tiger's Eye, (which we featured previously) won First Place Abstract, Large.

Based on Heather's inspiration for both quilts, we may have to take up geology.

From WeAllSew.com:

Loose change and thing-a-ma-bobs can now be rounded up in this sweet and practical coin purse. Shaped like a heart, it utilizes the technique of reverse appliqué to give it a unique embellishment with contrasting fabrics. This project is a perfect afternoon craft that makes a great gift.

Follow Professor Pincushion’s complete video tutorial and she’ll show you what supplies are needed, and demonstrate each step so you can easily make this heart purse, too.
