One of the biggest deals in livermore is the Rodeo - in fact, is the world's fastest Rodeo and this year it is 70 years old. When I was a little girl, on Saturday morning of rodeo weekend, we would head down town to be in the kiddies parade. We would dress as native Americans using a fringed, belted pillow case as our outfit, decorated with southwestern designs drawn in crayons. Now a days, the parade has elevated to another level. This morning John and I walked down town and snapped some images for you to enjoy - life in a small town USA. Does your town enjoy any annual celebrations?

Oh yes it is -  From 8th grade to college and perhaps even more than that - people are  walking for the paper! Tonight my daughter is presenting  her 8th graders with their certificates and at the local high school it is "FREEDOM" (so they think)! For each of my kids, they got a quilt for their high school accomplishments - here is a snap shot of Joey's quilt- note Sparrow has taken claim of it - I think nine years later, Joey is more concerned with wedding festivites - as he should be! Do you have any graduates in your family? Let's ring the bells to celebrate! Are there any quilts made for them?

Marian Pierce (gypsyrivergang) from Durango, Colorado is attending my La Veta Quilt Retreat this week (the second of two back to back retreats). She brought her TQS BOM blocks to share with me and I though you would like to see them too. It seems each month the excitement about the BOM grows. I can't wait for us to create a special page just for you to upload your completed BOMs at the end of the year! Sound like a good idea?

“Oh what fun one of those cutters would be,” was a comment made in our Daily Blog in response to seeing an AccuCut on the TQS Road Trip – Part One. During the taping of the Road Trip back in February, Alex & Ricky surprised Bunny’s Quilt Class but were in turn surprised by Bunny. They fell in love with the cutting machine that was being used to make the charity quilts so quick and easy. The machine is an AccuCut. AccuCut has been in the education and craft industry, and then they developed their system to help quilters. AccuCut has recently agreed to support TQS as our newest Site Sponsor. Click on their banner to see the great video that shows the system up close. Please take a moment to email and welcome AccuCut Quilt, and continue watching their banner to your left for more creative ideas.

These past six days have gone by like wildfire - Now we are cleaning up the place and heading back to our "day jobs" - as for myself, I am beside myself that the lions share of the Chuppah is completed. Here is a portion of the piece - As you can see it is very sheer (as per request) and then on all four sides scripture from Song of Solomon is embroidered in Hebrew. "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine".  This Friday Wendy will help me pull it all together - What would we do without friends?!

During the road trip I promised to teach YOU how to piece the Lemoyne - it is really quite straight forward. In my Classroom we are currently in the midst of two lessons, fancy quilting designs and the Lemoyne. The Lemoyne class is in 8 units and will run daily - we are currently on lesson 2 - join the fun and let's gaze at the stars!

While Alex is at her Summit, I am starting the second of two back to back La Veta Quilt Retreats today. Last week we had eight wonderful quilters experiencing all sorts of new quilting techniques and making beautiful projects. This time of the year we always warn the quilters about the bears. Of course, they mostly think we are just teasing, but we assure them we are not. The trash dumpster between our studio and the Inn is enticing to the bears because the Inn has a restaurant. DLQuilter (read more on her Member Blog - Pieces of Life) attended last week and, as she walked over for her morning class, she snapped this photo of a yearling.

Last night as we were finishing our get-acquainted dinner, the same bear was walking down the sidewalk in front of the studio. He/she finally ended up in the dumpster again and we watched for quite a while. Now that's inspiration for a quilt! I'm thinking Bear Paws. What about you?

For the past six years I have had the delicious opportunity to head to the CA foothills with my buddies Joen Wolfrom (show 103) and Darra Williamson. What started as a three-night gig has grown to six! Personally, I thought it was five nights this year, but Joen and Darra showed up on my doorstep one day early - so off we went (someone needs a keeper). Many plans and ideas have incubated, hatched, and grown at The Summit - Industry executives should quake in their boots during this timeframe -LOL. In addition, we sew our hearts and brains out. This year we took a field trip to Columbia State Park, so Darra could find the perfect repro fabric for a Churn Dash quilt at Lindy's Store, Fancy Dry Goods (as seen on the road trip). We found the perfect fabric then headed to Hammond's (that is where I got the famous green shoes) - and we all purchased another pair - two black and one purple. Of course the trip would not be complete without stopping at Bunny Rose and Co in Groveland (also seen on the road trip). Joen is working on a quilt for her pattern company, JWD Publishing and as for myself - the Chuppah is taking serious form. I'll give you a sneak peek tomorrow. We are having FUN FUN FUN at the Summit!
