Annette Hendricks, of the Three Sisters, recently took several weeks off from quilting to expand her very cramped basement studio. What once was an unmanageable works space has been transformed into two large multi-functional rooms. Complete with a purple wall, great lighting, comfy furniture, and a custom light table, it's now a studio that would fulfill any quilter's dream.

We finally made it and the picture shows we are truly in Florida.  (Although we can't really tell who is more scared?)  The location in Ocala, Florida is great and the people are wonderful.  They are ready to learn and to laugh.  This is going to be a great weekend filled with alligators and cavemen.

From Capt'n John:

Alex and I ran through the San Francisco Airport to fly to the Super Seminar in Florida with Ricky, Justin and Libby Lehman. I stopped to get you a few pictures. First, the cloud formation was very interesting as it snaked over the mountains like water in a fountain. Then there is the airport art.  There was an exhibit of family furnishings from the 1930-1965. I got a few pictures and then ran on.

Having just come on a year ago, I still haven't built up very many miles. While Alex sits in the expanded legroom seats, I hope to have enough time in so that on the next flight I get to sit inside the airplane. Whoo Hoo!! (You gotta pay your dues.)

Do you stop and look at your airport art or do you head directly to the gate?

A photo taken during the concert at the Omaha Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar.

We'll Justin and I finish our four day drive today and will arrive in Ocala, Florida sometime after lunch. It was four days because we took one day with my folks in Wichita Falls, TX, then drove to visit his mom near Houston, then last night we stayed in Milton, Florida. Alex and John fly in today and Libby Lehman and the rest of our crew arrive today as well. Tomorrow morning and early afternoon is set up and then the Ocala Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar begins. We know many of you are coming! yeah.

The seminars are becoming destination events for many quilters. If you are interested in attending one, we will be near Seattle, WA in August and the LA area in California in December. Check my website for details.

Heads up - In 2010 (registration and dates for 2010 are not listed on my site yet) we will be in Cleveland, Ohio, Sacramento, CA, and the Cape Cod, MA area.

Who will we see in Ocala? Chime in.

My roots are in Texas and I'm a Texan through and through. Even though I've been living outside of Texas since 1988, there's nothing like finding things from 'home' that make one wax nostalgic.

As we drove through Texas yesterday it was evident that Spring had sprung there and the bluebonnets were in abundance. The bluebonnet (in the Lupin family) is the Texas state flower and I never cease to get a great deal of pleasure when I'm able to see them growing/blooming on Texas highways. In Colorado we have lupins that are similar - Justin and I saw a vine-like lupin at Machu Picchu that reminded me of bluebonnets, but nothing beats the real deal. So at a gas station stop I found a small patch and took about 100 photos in 5 minutes. The photo above was taken at that stop.

What is your state/provincial/country flower? Have you ever stitched it in a quilt - or do you have a desire to do so?

It seems that if asked, Pam Holland, our roving video reporter, will pack a bag and travel to the farthest-flung regions of the world to spread the love of quilting. Just back from a teaching stint in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Pam shares with us glimpses of this jewel-like city built in the desert.

"Fabric from Bangkok----AnnetteS
8 days ago I was in Bangkok on holiday. I purchased a selection of Thai silk, some cotton fabric and batik, plus two wonderful Japanese bag books. The wallet has been made from the fabric, using a pattern from Bags and interior goods book. I wanted to challenge myself to use fabric that I would normally avoid. The big laugh was on me as all my "silk" is man made material. Threads burn into a melted glob. I do not read Japanese, but the books are easy to follow."

AnnetteS is eligible to win our Quilting Goodie bag.  She uploaded a picture of her last quilting purchase into Show & Tell.  Go to the purple bar and click on "Show & Tell".  Then upload a picture of your last quilting purchase by midnight tonight.  You could win a bag similar to what our studio audience won last week.
