White Corded Quilting is the name of an exhibit that ran at the International Quilting Study Center and Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska several years ago. Capt'n John had the opportunity to go backstage and see one of the favorite quilts of Carolyn Ducey, Phd.

Take a look. Even "grocery baggers" will love this quilt (you'll have to watch to get the reference).

Tom Russell was a quilt artist with a passion for embellishment. Watch Tom as he teaches Alex and Ricky how to work with beads and buttons.

Here is another view of the Mountain Mist Antique Quilts from the Road To California Show in 2009.

You can let the slideshow run automatically, or you can pause the slideshow and step through each picture at your own rate of speed.  Watch in full screen (it is much better this way), and you can control the sound. The music is by Ricky Tims from his Heart & Soul CD. The song is Remember December.

When "Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts" was on exhibit at the Park Avenue Armory in NYC, everyone entered the room in a state of awe. Jaws dropped and all eyes went up to look at the exquisite quilts hanging from the ceiling. TQS decided to get a better look at some of the quilting and embroidery in the quilts and we set our sites close up to give you a chance to look as well.

(In some cases we adjusted coloration of the photo to better highlight the quilting and embroidery.)

Spring still may be a few months away in your part of the world, but that's no reason you can't enjoy the bountiful new fabrics that P&B Textiles (Flora Bella) and Red Rooster Fabrics (Yippee...Daisies!) have coming to a quilt shop near you. Use these cheerful prints to make a fast-and-easy quilt featuring the Square Dance block that we found in Alex's book, Start Quilting...a great way to add a shot of color to your home decor.

To make a 6” finished Square Dance block:

CUT:

Cut 1 square 3 ½” x 3 ½” – This will be the center square.

Cut 2 rectangles 2” x 3 ½” – These will be the two side rectangles.

Cut 2 rectangles 2” x 6 ½” – These will be the top and bottom rectangles.

SEW:

Sew the 2” x 3 ½” side rectangles to each side of the center square.

Once they are attached, press the rectangles away from the center square.

Sew the 2” x 6 ½” rectangles to the top and the bottom of the square.

Press these rectangles away from the center square.

You have now completed one 6” finished Square Dance block.
