Maria's quilt, Albert Hoffman's Obit, was awarded the handi-quilter wall longarm machine quilting award at AQS Paducah 2009. We fell in love with the colors and the interesting use of multiple quilting designs.

Quilters Select 80 wt. Para-Cotton Poly Thread

Para-Cotton Poly Thread is made of polyester that has been thermally treated to remove undesired stretchiness and shrinkage, this thread looks, feels, and stitches like mercerized cotton. The fineness of this thread makes it perfect for your bobbinmachine quilting, and applique.

Quilters Select 60 wt. Perfect Cotton-Plus Thread

Perfect Cotton-Plus Thread has an outer layer of long Egyptian staple cotton that makes it great for piecingmachine quilting and sewing, while its polyester core lends added fineness and strength for increased accuracy and durability.

Chawne Kimber was inspired by a quote from Eartha Kitt's autobiography, Alone with Me, where she stated, "In essence, I am a sophisticated cotton picker." Chawne hand quilted the piece and feels it is a direct callback to the make-do utility quilts made by her great-grandmother on a former cotton plantation in Alabama.

Chawne's quilt was exhibited at QuiltCon in 2016.

Sacred Threads is a biennial exhibition established to provide a venue for quilters of all faiths who see their work as a connection to the sacred and/or as an expression of their spiritual journey. They are looking for quilts for their 2019 Exhibit.

Quilts submitted should explore themes of joy, spirituality, peace/brotherhood, inspiration, grief, or healing. Quilts must be an original design or an original execution of a traditional pattern.

Sacred Threads is open only to artists within the United States and Canada. Only quilts or quilted hangings will be considered. Integration of non-fabric items is acceptable; however, 3D pieces, altered books and items mounted on stretcher bars or framed cannot be accommodated.

I knew I could count on you for help! After tallying up the votes...my next project will be the Rainy Days Trio! Since spring is here, it will be the perfect project to  celebrate the season. I did love getting all the rationales for your choices...and laughed at a few of the jabs at my UFO list...but I am at peace with the choice and I may be asking for your help again some day.

And...

We are counting down to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show which is a one day show with about 1400 quilts on the second Saturday in July. They start hanging the quilts at 7 AM and they come down at 4 PM! The week before the show, the Stitchin' Post organizes the Quilter's Affair which is 5 days of classes with instructors from around the globe. And, the day after the Quilt Show is Save It For Sunday, a wonderful event where a featured Quilter/Designer has their quilts hung in the forest around the 5 Pines Resort. This event includes a walking tour with the designer. This is one of my favorite events...seeing the quilts hanging in the forest is so beautiful. The week of Quilter's Affair there is also an program each evening to provide entertainment which keeps the quilters happy!

The reason I say "count down" is the teachers have to turn in their fabric postcards this week for the auction and also register their quilts for the Teacher's Tent. This means I have been a busy bee this past weekend! But, I am going to make it because all of you helped me by making the project decision for me!!!

I do hope I see some of you in Sisters at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show!!!

Did you know the word “appliqué” comes from the French “appliquér” which means to apply or to fit over? Jill Finley at WeAllSew.com shows you how to do just that in this tutorial about Machine Appliqué.
