Heidi created this quilt for her Mother-in-Law. It began as a "ribbon" quilt in support of breast cancer research, but when her mother wanted a larger quilt, Heidi discovered that it just wanted to "grow" into a heart quilt and a lovely one it is. Hear the whole story in Heidi's Show 2211: Hoop-Free Longarm Embroidery.

We ordered one of these portable cordless irons to try out for the store, and we really liked it so we gave it to Alex to test... when it didn't come back, we knew we had a hit!

Why does Alex love it?

  • The iron is cord free! How many times have you been pressing and had that annoying cord get in the way? The cord is in the base so it won't ever cause aggravation.
  • It's portable - really portable. Light weight (just 4.5 lbs!) and easy to carry, with a handle on top of the heat-resistant carrying case. The cord retracts into the base, so it won't get in your way while you are carrying it.
  • It gets really hot. Hotter than Alex's old iron, which means that it does a better job pressing your seams (and it is faster too).
  • Both ends of the sole plate are pointed, so you can press in any direction with minimal turning and repositioning. It's great for blocks that have seams going in multiple directions.
  • It has a non-stick ceramic-coated soleplate. This distributes the heat more evenly and glides smoothly over your fabric.
  • It can produce steam when held vertically, so you can use it as a steamer too!

There was a great deal of interest surrounding Meghan Markle's wedding dress, but we were more intrigued about her wedding veil by Givenchy. Many hours were spent embroidering the veil made from silk tulle with flowers created in silk and organza. Find out the significance of the design and just how often the embroiderers had to wash their hands while working to make it perfect for the big day.

We did it! We survived the 2018 Spring International Quilt Market! Sure Enzo was a little pouty with having to just hang out at home, but he knows how important quilting is to me! I was fascinated to see the industry from a variety of different perspectives. It is definitely in flux. The energy was high and there were a lot of sore feet and squealing pocketbooks which means you will be seeing some awesome products in the near future. It is a difficult task for a shop owner to decide what their customer base would like in the future because product doesn't arrive right away...it does take time to get it to us, LOL.

I wanted to give you a peek on what a company's process is at Quilt Market and I was lucky enough to not only experience it as reporter, but also as a worker bee for Buttermilk Basin. Stacy West the designer behind Buttermilk Basin and her minions which include family and friends work hard to provide fresh new experiences in the world of wool and cotton. A company pays for square footage and booth walls and must design their booth to be a show stopper.

From this blank slate, a design must emerge much like one would design and piece a quilt. For some, their props and products are shipped, but for a family centered business like Stacy's, it means her husband George loads the trailer and drives cross country! They unload and set up...but with the vision of a designer, the set up is like a mini HGTV show!

Once the set up is done you step back and instead of rest on your laurels...you start tweaking it here and there, lol.

Stacy's newest Block of the Month is sure to be a best seller and I know that I for one am going to enjoy the process!!

Stacy will continue to take the quilting world by storm with one traditional quilt and wool pattern at a time and with her generous spirit she has donated a copy of her latest book published by QuiltMania to one of the blog readers of Anna and G on the Road! To participate in this giveaway, please leave a comment if you are interested, and please consider joining The Quilt Show for its wonderful inspirational stories, patterns, tips, and quilting love. Barbara Brackman recently posted a photo of a quilt made by Jerrianne Evans. It was The Grape Quilt designed by her friend, and ours, the late Sue Garman. The quilt took 3 years to make and is a loving tribute to her friend.

Here is more information about the quilt from www.factsfacts.com. Click here to learn more and see a detail of the quilt.
It was hand appliquéd and machine pieced by Jerrianne Evans and machine quilted by Cindy Gravely. It was begun in 2015 and completed in 2018 and is based on a pattern designed by Sue (based on two antique quilts).

Jerrianne writes:

"In 2012, I found a photo of a gorgeous antique quilt with lots and lots of grapes. I showed it to Sue, but she didn't take the bait. in 2015, a similar quilt was displayed at the Vermont Quilt Festival. This time Sue was hooked. It wasn't long before she had drafted a pattern. I immediately went to work making grapes. 1620 grapes and 88 leaves, but who's counting? Sue will be forever in my heart."
