Susan writes, "I wear aprons a lot, because I make lots of messes. I do a lot of surface design on fabric before I stitch it into art quilts, I dabble in other sloppy crafts, and I dig in the dirt (garden). I designed this apron to cover most of my clothing, but still be comfortable and utilitarian. It’s easy to customize it to meet your needs, and make you look fabulous!"

The winners of the Cherrywood "Prince" Challenge have been announced and they are spectacular.

Participants were asked to use Prince's music as inspiration to push themselves creatively, think outside the box, and create new fiber art. The contest was open to anyone and they received entries from several countries. All the quilts were the same color, fabric, size and theme.

I spent this past long weekend with some of my quilting peeps and it made me reflect on a facet of the quilting community. Women have a history of sharing the knowledge of quilt making...not only as a necessity but as a means of socialization. As people moved across the nation when they settled into a community they used barn raisings, harvesting, and quilt making as a way to connect to an area and find support, both physical and emotional.

The same thing is currently happening...we quilters want to learn and share with each other, but the mode has changed. You will find on The Quilt Show sites where you can connect with groups and also tutorials as a learning support tool. During the retreat, two of the quilting peeps worked on a project from a class they took with Violet Craft at Quilters Affair 2018. I realized that they were actually listening to Violet talk them through a step in the quilt instructions...on their smart phones!!! The support groups and instructors that are available would make the quilters of the previous century astounded!!!

I know that when I want a one-on-one tutorial about one of Sue Spargo's stitches, I just bring up my Craftsy class. And, if I need some girlfriend time i.e. Quilting Bee, I join a stitching class or I attend a nice quilt retreat. Although we are not creating the next great art quilt we are sure having a grand time. The slide show is just a peek of what went on this weekend and I came away satisfied with what I accomplished and the community that was created.
