Alex is asking all her friends, "What is your word for 2019?" Alex's word is "Create". Capt'n John's word is "Focus" (new website coming on line this year...)

What is your word?  Tell us in the comments. It's okay to share or repeat words. (Please keep it family friendly.)

This enchanting quilt by Cristina Arcenegui Bono of Spain was inspired by illustrations for the book, My Childhood by Sveta Dorosheva. The Jump depicts a little girl with plenty of energy jumping into the water and enjoying her childhood. It is stunning in that it is basically a wholecloth quilt brought to life through machine stitching and just a touch of red.

The Jump was exhibited at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

Although I am not a designer, a bit of my quilting soul wants to be one! To release that inner designer, I will occasionally change...or a better word is enhance, a pattern I am working on. I actually like adding a bit of me into the patterns I am working on...it may be as subtle as quilting in a secret message or as bold as adding something to the actual design.

Last week I shared how I personalized candle mats by adding initial charms so the receiver would know I was thinking of them in the creation. It is not hard to add a bit of you or someone you know into the stitching. Whenever there is script in an embroidery pattern I ponder how I might make it more personally special.

As we have been traveling down the road and I have been stitching away on a Buttermilk Basin pattern I wondered how I might make the pattern have a personal statement.

Looking at each pattern that I am gifting for ways to make a design not only the designers creation but also a piece of my "talent"... LOL... Since this sweet mat is going to be gifted, I decided to add their name on the doormat! As simple as that, I have taken a pattern and made it personal!

Stay tuned and travel along with us on Quilt Roadies...where we are connecting one quilter and one shop at a time!!

You know that expression, "There are no words..."? Well, this is one time when it truly applies to a quilt, but we are going to try and describe it anyway. Flower Rondo by Chinami Terai was inspired by the yellow mimosas and roses in her garden. This absolutely exquisite quilt was hand quilted, hand appliquéd, embroidered, and embellished with velveteen ribbon for texture.

Flower Rondo won 1st Place Hademade at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018 and it's not hard to see why.

This friendly little pincushion by Rebecca Ringquist makes use of scraps and creates a quick and easy gift for you or a fellow quilter. From start to finish, it takes no more than 45 minutes. While the tutorial has you personalize by machine, you could easily hand embroider the monogram as well.
