Lucy in the Sky by Alane Davis is a wonder of diamonds. Inspired by M.C. Escher, Peter Max, and Victor Vasarely, Alane wanted to create an optical illusion with a repeating pattern. We think she achieved her goal...and after a while, we stopped counting the number of diamonds. Lucy in the Sky won 3rd Place - Use of Negative Space at QuiltCon 2019.

UPDATE: Alane just announced she is offering a 10% discount for this pattern if you use the code    LUCYQUILTSHOW    at checkout.     click here

At Kansas City Spring Market 2019 we saw a number of winning quilts. "Bird Talk" by Australian quilter, Beth Miller, caught our attention. We loved the playfulness, the colors, and the hidden birds watching it all. Take a look at all the techniques listed and then see them up close. Great quilt.

We didn't need to ask Alex which of our new quilting tools is her favorite, because she has been raving about them since we got them into the store.

Alex's favorite new tool is Heidi Proffetty's Precision Tweezers!

Why does she love them so much?

She says, "They are super sharp and pointed. Perfect for machine quilting or to pull the bobbin thread up!"

They are also great for mosaic work and appliqué!

Do you dance when you quilt? Irene Roderick does. She dances from the ironing board, to the cutting board, to the machine, and all around her sewing room. Her quilt, Dance in Celery, is based not only on an actual dance, but also on the art of improv quilting.

Dance in Celery won 2nd Place Improvisation at QuiltCon 2019.

There's a new exhibit at the American Museum & Gardens featuring Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in America.

From the museum:

Kaffe Fassett’s Quilts in America 16 March – 3 November 2019 We are delighted to welcome back Kaffe Fassett to the American Museum for our 2019 special exhibition. As part of our special exhibition programme, we will be showcasing 20 brand new quilts designed by Kaffe. These stunning new artworks have been inspired by the Museum’s world-renowned collection of antique American quilts. The exhibition at the American Museum will provide a unique opportunity to see the old and the new alongside one another. Kaffe Fassett, Brandon Mably and their design team have worked closely with chief curator Kate Hebert to select appropriate quilts from the Museum’s collection. These treasures were then reimagined and recreated using fabrics designed by the team. The resulting creations showcase Kaffe’s flair for, and use of, vivid colour combinations. Accompanying the exhibition is Kaffe’s latest publication Kaffe Fassett’s Quilts in America (published August 2018). Kaffe has had a long association with the American Museum, which has held a number of exhibitions of his work. It is fitting that to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his successful series of patchwork and quilting books, Kaffe should choose the quilt collection at the Museum as the inspiration for his latest publication. Exhibition includes: 20 new Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably designed quilts. 18 historic quilts from the collection of the American Museum.

At Spring Quilt Market 2019 they displayed a group of past winning quilts. One of our favorites is the quilt below that has quilting that makes the quilt dance. By varying the tightness of the quilting, Anna Orduna Pons makes shapes and texture that create the design of the quilt. "Barcelona" won Merit Quilting - Stationary Machine in Houston 2018 sponsored by BERNINA.
