Today we continue our selection of quilts recently displayed at the Spring Paducah 2019 show featured as part of The 14th Quilt Nihon Exhibition. The exhibit is described as:

"Organized by the Japan Handicraft Instructors' Association, the Quilt Nihon Exhibition is one of the most prestigious international quilt contests in Japan. The exhibit features 42 quilts from the "Innovative Traditional" category, which will later be exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art."

Please enjoy the sixth quilt from the exhibition by Humiko Murofushi.

Ricky has mentioned in the past that he has an affinity for a certain type of bird. When we came across this quilt, we knew it was for him. We found it at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah Spring 2019.

Continuing with our look at past winners displayed at Spring Market, we want you to get close to the quilting of Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry. This is a beautiful quilt in many aspects, but today look closely at the quilting in the detail pictures and then see how they play on the full quilt. Look at the different styles and designs throughout the quilt. See how she achieves texture with tight and loose quilting. See how she creates movement to match her piecing. Now, how about the quilt you are working on?

How many quilt shows have you been to where you stood in front of a quilt and wondered..."What is the story?" Many shows have the name of the quilt and the quilter, but QuiltWorks goes a step further. Each month on the first Friday, QuiltWorks in Bend, Oregon introduces a new quilt display in their upstairs gallery with a featured quilter reception. The reception is a wonderful evening gathering for the greater Central Oregon quilting community. The show then continues to hang for the rest of the month. 

This month there was a call out for quilts from previously featured quilters and the quilts were fantastic! But, what I really loved is that each quilt had a detailed description from the quilter. It is so revealing what compels, inspires, or motivates us to make quilts. This time I decided to not just include slides of the quilts, but the narrative about each quilt. You can stop and start the slide show at will so you can have time to read the story behind each quilt. There was only one quilt that I couldn't get the narrative because it was pinned to the quilt. Get a cup of coffee or tea, take your time, and enjoy the slide show :)
