One of the fun things about hanging quilts in the trees is that you see the backs of the quilts. Below are 4 (not 3)  pictures. Can you tell which are backs and which are fronts? For the answer and the other side of the quilts, click here.

Barbara McKie is known for making quilts of birds that are so lifelike they look like they could fly right off the fabric. Her quilt, Eastern Blue Bird, is no exception. Barbara digitally printed the photo of the bird onto fabric and then used trapunto to "stuff" it. She then threadpainted and appliquéd it to bring it to life.

Eastern Blue Bird won 1st Place - Miniature Art at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

A number of quilters were affected by the Camp Fire in Northern California last year, including one of our TQS guests, Melinda Bula, who lost her home. Another TQS guest, Lynn Wilder, has supplied us with information on how we can help other quilters in the area by purchasing tickets for their opportunity quilt.
-------------------
You can own this beautiful quilt offered by the Paradise Ridge Quilters' Guild. The one year anniversary of the Camp Fire is approaching and the raffle takes place in mid-October for their opportunity quilt.

The guild lost their permanent meeting place and have to meet in Durham. Even though the guild members have scattered around Northern California, they still return for the monthly meetings.

The Ridge Quilters’ Guild from Paradise, California has been overwhelmed by the generous and heartfelt support offered and given by the nation’s quilting community. Many guilds have asked how they can help us.  We believe the best thing you can do for us is to help us help ourselves, by purchasing tickets to our 2019 Opportunity Quilt, “Sweet Surrender” which was saved from the fire. A majority of our guild members lost their homes, quilts, and supplies in the fire and our storage facility was also destroyed. With your support, we will be able to replace our quilt racks and other necessities before we need them for our next show.

Ticket purchases can be made by check sent to Ridge Quilters Guild,  PO Box 1668, Paradise, CA 95967.Tickets are $1.00 each, 6 or $5.00, or 13 for $10.00. Please include your email address so that we can send you confirmation of your ticket purchase and your ticket numbers. To help defray costs you will not receive ticket stubs so please keep your check as your proof of donation for tax purposes. The drawing for this beautiful and hope filled quilt will be on October 15, 2019 at our general meeting.  Thank you for your continued support. Quilting in the Garden at Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore, California, is an outdoor quilt show in a beautiful garden setting. However, it is outdoors. Over the years we have had too much heat, too much cold, and this year...well, take a quick look at the short video and keep us in your thoughts Sunday.

In her quilt Rainbow Cloud, Sherri Lynn Wood used improvisational, ruler-free strip piecing. She also created a new technique where she used strip piecing and bias strip curves to complete the quilt.
