A number of quilters were affected by the Camp Fire in Northern California last year, including one of our TQS guests, Melinda Bula, who lost her home. Another TQS guest, Lynn Wilder, has supplied us with information on how we can help other quilters in the area by purchasing tickets for their opportunity quilt.
-------------------
You can own this beautiful quilt offered by the Paradise Ridge Quilters' Guild. The one year anniversary of the Camp Fire is approaching and the raffle takes place in mid-October for their opportunity quilt.

The guild lost their permanent meeting place and have to meet in Durham. Even though the guild members have scattered around Northern California, they still return for the monthly meetings.

 -  Sweet Surrender pattern by Sue Cody, appliqued and pieced by guild members using Kaffe Fassett fabrics and quilted by member, Marsha Haunschild.

The Ridge Quilters’ Guild from Paradise, California has been overwhelmed by the generous and heartfelt support offered and given by the nation’s quilting community. Many guilds have asked how they can help us.  We believe the best thing you can do for us is to help us help ourselves, by purchasing tickets to our 2019 Opportunity Quilt, “Sweet Surrender” which was saved from the fire. A majority of our guild members lost their homes, quilts, and supplies in the fire and our storage facility was also destroyed. With your support, we will be able to replace our quilt racks and other necessities before we need them for our next show.

Ticket purchases can be made by check sent to Ridge Quilters Guild,  PO Box 1668, Paradise, CA 95967.Tickets are $1.00 each, 6 or $5.00, or 13 for $10.00. Please include your email address so that we can send you confirmation of your ticket purchase and your ticket numbers. To help defray costs you will not receive ticket stubs so please keep your check as your proof of donation for tax purposes. The drawing for this beautiful and hope filled quilt will be on October 15, 2019 at our general meeting.  Thank you for your continued support. Does anyone know where this pattern can be purchased? I know it was available in 2015 (5 years ago), but would love to try my hand at it. Thanks

Melinda is a wonderful instructor. WAQG enjoyed having her teach classes in Tuscaloosa, AL and would love to have her back. Sending a check for 26 tickets!

My parents(decease d) lived in Paradise on Country Club Drive for many years. My brother still owned the house, GONE. I love to sew, mostly quilting now so my heart aches for all of you. Elaine Wennerstrom Trzpuc

Quilers stick together. I know how much damage has happened, my sister and brother-in -law were nearly burned out in the Tubbs complex fire in Sonoma, Napa counties in northern California. Two years later there is still wide spread evidence of the fire. Recovery will take a long time, the fires were so hot that the soil was damaged from the intense heat. All the best to the people of Paradise, California, prayers sent.

Buying chances on quilt, even if for a worthy cause, is not something to try to deduct from your taxes. If the guild is a registered charity and so is the group receiving the money and you are donating not buying a chance that is a different story.

Quilters in the Santiam Canyon, Oregon delivered 71 quilts to the Paradise Guild in June. They were distributed to those in need.

I sent in money for tickets and have spent hours looking for this pattern. I want to make this quilt, but that seems to be impossible. ☹️
