See "Eastern Blue Bird" a quilt by Barbara McKie

Barbara McKie is known for making quilts of birds that are so lifelike they look like they could fly right off the fabric. Her quilt, Eastern Blue Bird, is no exception. Barbara digitally printed the photo of the bird onto fabric and then used trapunto to "stuff" it. She then threadpainted and appliquéd it to bring it to life.

Eastern Blue Bird won 1st Place - Miniature Art at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

Beautiful and these birds are the cutest thing to watch when they are picking out a home. I had a birdhouse that was an adobe church which I painted and my husband put up...my TN neighbors laughed their heads off and said those birds are too picky and will never set up housekeeping there! But i kept watch from my sewing room window and after a few picky couples looked at it , it was leased!!!! Many hours of pleasure watching them with their Babies.
