When we think of wholecloth quilts, we probably think of a single fabric that has been quilted all over to add beautiful detail. Jane Holihan's Summer Sonnet meets that definition, only it is considerably smaller than other wholecloth quilts. (See it compared to the other two quilts it's sitting between below) Featured at Houston 2017 in the Merit Quilting, Hand category, "this original design is hand-quilted and embellished with embroidery and tiny beads." Talk about taking advantage of the space you're given.

Summer Sonnet by Jane Holihan of Walworth, New York was featured in the Merit Quilting, Hand category at Houston 2017.

Simply gorgeous. Whole cloth quilts are my favorite. Keep thinking I will make/design a bed quilt one some day . . .

I can see the details in close ups but not the whole cloth so sad.

Yikes the skill that went into this quilt! And here I am still perfecting my quilter's knot...oh well... this is a dream to strive for!

I love the shell feather and the birds and the corner treatment.

This pretty amazing. So much more pattern and detail in this than in the larger size blue ribbon winner. I can't imagine. The cross quilting in back of the center basket- how many threads of the fabric did she have between each row of stitching? I would like to see this in person- so far can't see the beads! wow.
