Now here's something you don't see everyday, blue elephants! More to the point, Indigo Elephants. Andrea Schwenk's quilt contains "dyed silks, cottons and lace with natural indigo" from her garden." Made with machine piecing and machine appliqué, this is no quilt to shake your trunk at.

Indigo Elephants by Andrea Schwenk of Kerken, Germany was featured in the Wall category at the Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) 2019.

Thanks so much I feel very honored to see my work here. So one of my absolutely favorite animals are elephants. I took the pictures in the zoo of cologne. The silk fabric was once a bridal dress. Thanks for your nice comments I really appreciate it.

What a beautiful quilt! The eyes are so expressive and I love the lace detail! They look so real.

I dearly love the expressions on their faces, their eyes. How could Andrea make them seem to have personalities? There are few things on this earth I love more than elephants so I really enjoyed seeing this magnificent piece of work. She made it feel effortless and that is the hardest thing to do in quilting. Very well done.
