To create the look of optical art in a Mariner's Compass, Peter Hayward added 3D effects to his very small quilt, Steering By The Stars, by "using a technique of interwoven strips of fused fabric." With machine quilting, fused appliqué, and weaving, there is a different visual sensation every place you look.

Steering By The Stars by Peter Hayward of Javea, Alicante, Spain was featured in the Appliqué, Small category at Houston 2018.

You must have gotten an A plus in geometry in school to have figured out all the perfect angles and sizes. The depth perception is awesome. Thank you for sharing

It would have been far more interesting if you'd told us the size of the quilts.

The colors and design are unique. It does look like you are looking at the stars. The use of tulle enhances this wonderful quilt.
