Curious Australian Bird landed on Barbara McKie's windshield while visiting the countryside. Barbara took a photo and then printed that on fabric and threadpainted this lively little fellow with the beautiful blue crest.

Curious Australian Bird by Barbara McKie won First Place, Surface Design, sponsored by Sew Steady, at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2019.

The details of the quilt are extraordinary! Beautiful little bird, and so realistic looking. Fabulous idea to call attention to a small creature we shouldn't think of as non-essential in our world. Beautiful and well deserving of the award.

Wonderful detail, especially the wipers, grill and window. Love wrens, they are so tiny and fast - I call them the mice of the bird world

Love the detail in the little bird! Took me a few to realize it was sitting on a windshield.

What a beautiful job on this quilt. Great job on the bird, the grill and the wipers. How did you ever get the eye to look so real. I just enjoy looking at the bird.
Thank You for sharing.

Congratulations ! We have a lot of these little birds dancing around our garden too. The blue is so deep and beautiful. They make you want to raid your fabric stash to see if you have that exact blue. Love the detail and quilting. Hello from Australia.
