I Walked Toward Him Like a Moon Princess by Natalya Lashko of the Ukraine was the winner of the Koala Studios Master Award for Innovative Artistry at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2019. It was on display as part of the Fantasy/Whimsy exhibit.

Natalya uses an interesting appliqué technique we had never seen before. Ricky had a chance to talk with Natalya (with the help of interpreter Maria Nelga) in Houston to find out how she made the quilt. We do know she does it all by hand. Watch the video below the quilt photos.

That is amazing. I see some quilts and it just amazes me the depth and work that goes into. The artist vision that appears. This technique is mind boggling. What beautiful work.

Saw this in Houston and have to agree it was a stop-you-in-you r-tracks piece of art. And what a goosebump moment to know, Ricky, that your encouragement played a part in her artistry. Kudos all around!

Amazing interview. Amazing hand work. I have watched this show since the beginning and cannot remember a time when Ricky was so moved. To know that the moments he gave Ms. Lashko encouraged her to move forward must be so satisfying. One wonders how many more artists are out there creating incredible pieces not acknowledged. Thank you

It is so important to keep to keep these techniques and crafts alive. I think a video of her using the small tubes would be invaluable.

Wow, amazing skill and artistry. What a beautiful story, "the moment matters," that's so true, you just never know how words you say can have such an unimaginable impact on someone and you yourself are totally unaware you did that. Makes my heart full. Thank you for all you do. Xox
