Quilting has always taken on hard subjects. My Divorce Quilt: Shredded, a quilt by Susan Fletcher King, expresses her reactions to a difficult life event. The quilt achieves strong emtions by using raw edge appliqué to effect, strong black and red images, and appears to have journal entries or letters placed throughout the quilt.

Simply amazing and moving and liberating all at once. I too divorced after 26 years, from a cheater as well. I started actively quilting after that. Before there was no time as I was busy working in office and at home and he required all of my free time keeping up the house! So much better off .

The only thing we know about others is what they are willing to show us. No matter who they are or how long we have known them.
I'm sorry for your loss. Your quilt is lovely.

My sympathy to you, I have had the same experience,
I hope the quilt has made you move on, he is the one
that will regret it, sooner or later. Mine did, but too late, and I moved on happily without him.
Good news, he married her, and then she cheated on him...life cycles...all the best, love the quilt.

This quilt is incredibly moving... I too had a cheating husband and my life was torn to shreds. I love “journal entries,” which was one way I coped.

But your comment that your husband was actually a “complete stranger” really touched me. After 19 years, he left us, but then I found out about all the other affairs—includi ng my (former) best friend; her youngest daughter was actually fathered by my husband.

I love this, so much! ❤️❤️❤️

The NQA quilts were exhibited in Ft.Wayne some years back. There was one titled "There's a hole in my heart, where my mother's love used to be". It affected me so profoundly, I had to leave the exhibit--I went outside and cried--even though my mother had been gone for 20-some years.....Susan , I hope the creation of this quilt helped you heal and achieve some emotional balance in your life.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt. It brought me to tears for you, and myself. I was abandoned after 54 years married (58 counting our courtship), 5 years ago, and I have made it this far because of the love and caring of friends and family. And a great counselor who uses EMDR. It is a slow process and when you are "older", there is not much future other than what you make for yourself. I am a survivor and I quilt.

I, too, have had the betrayal experience and your gorgeous interpretation of the complicated difficulties faced in the situation moved me to both tears and joy. Thank You for your complexity of artistry representing the shredding, confusing, delicate aspects.

One of the most touching, surreal and beautiful quilts I've seen. Art is expression. So well done!

are still ahead of you. Go Girl!
