Marilyn Lone was inspired by the Kīlauea volcano to create her quilt, Lava. She knew she couldn't really get close, so she used her imagination to recreate the Lava bursting forth to create new land.

Lava was on display at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2018 as part of the Landscape Quilts exhibit.

Once the Volcano information center is relocated, this would be a perfect addition. Hopefully someone can afford to buy it for donation to the parks service. It’s a perfect representation of the lava flows.

Such a great quilt of the volcano which we've seen many times (30 yrs. ago) before the big eruption. CONGRATS!!

Marilyn certainly captured the whole perspective of a volcanoes action. This is a beautiful quilt that could be used as a teaching tool showing the cycle. Love it!

I’ve been to the Volcanoes National Park in the 70’s before parts of it were closed to the public. Excellent representation.
