"Buttermilk and Blue Skies" a Karen Grover Quilt

Karen Grover wanted to use denim, vintage shirting, and appliqué on indigo fabric. She discovered she might have a bit of an issue with the different weights of each fabric and came up with an elegant solution. She also created the very elegant Buttermilk and Blue Skies.

Karen's quilt was on display at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

When I first saw the quilt I thought I was in a summer garden. Benches all about to stop and rest and enjoy the beautiful landscape.

This is definitely an adventurous and unusual use different types of fabric. The appliqué on the lighter fabric is really lovely and beautifully done. However, I find my eye drawn by the dark/light strips of background at the sides rather than focusing on the appliqué. For me, the background seems chaotic and distracts from the beautiful appliqué. Nice work, though.

This is really lovely. The delicate applique is such a great offset to the denim. Also a great idea to double the batting on the shirt fabric.
