Once in while there is a quilt that just takes our breath away and this time it was Colourful Retina by Sugy Kim of Australia. We were speechless when we saw it, but now we can apply words such as Gobsmacked...Stunned...Mind Blown. From the millions of perfect points, to the fabric matching and brilliant design, we are still trying to catch our breath.

Sugy's quilt was on display in the Hand Quilted Quilts category of AQS QuiltWeek Spring Paducah 2019. It measures 87" x 87" and was hand quilted.

Quilting Techniques:
Applipieced, fused appliqué, hand appliqué, bias work, freestyle piecing, foundation piecing, hand piecing, paper piecing, machine piecing, piped edging.

It scares me just looking at it . I don't know how I could start doing something like that. I like quilting but that would be to much for me. Wow wow!

Incredible hand work--both quilting and applique! One comment mentioned fussy cutting. After taking two classes with Paula Nadelstern, I can see the time it took to fussy cut for the applique. Hours of lining up a template over the designs and tracing around them before cutting--no doubt by hand! I agree with the comment that questioned why there wasn't a ribbon attached. If there were others considered better than this, I'd like to see them, too.
