On Tuesday, April 16th, BERNINA USA welcomed 11-year old Make-A-Wish America recipient Macy to their office. My NBC5 was there to document the visit, watch the video below.

Here's the entire story from BERNINA.

Two years ago, Macy was diagnosed with a non-cancerous tumor in her jaw that required multiple surgeries and two years of chemotherapy to treat. During this time, Macy was pulled out of her regular school to be home schooled, and at the suggestion of her physician, took up quilting as a challenging activity to fill her time. Macy’s situation was referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children undergoing treatment for a critical illness. Her wish? A BERNINA sewing machine!

Macy’s wish was granted, and with the help of BERNINA dealer Appletree Quilting Center in Columbia, MO, she received a new B790 PLUS Anniversary Edition sewing machine. In addition, District Manager Dan Robbins invited Macy to visit them on April 16 for a tour their headquarters, lunch with Paul Ashworth, a Brewer gift basket, and a private sewing lesson from Educator Hayley Grzych.

Macy was accompanied by her parents Amy and Lathe, her younger brother, Max, and her physician, Dr. Crystal Redman. OESD - Oklahoma Embroidery Supply & Design & Brewer.

Macy and her family are friends of mine. Not only is this a great story, but you should also interview her about her project of Beads of Courage. These are bags given to seriously ill children with a bead given for any procedure they endure. She came to our guild in Mo. asking us to help with this project. To date, our guild has made almost 2000 bags donated to University of Missouri Hospital for these children. Macy is an absolute inspiration to all of us and we couldn’t be more excited for her new Bernina! Thank you to Bernina Corp for this gift!

What a wonderful story of a brave and talented young Lady. And so great to get to not only a tour but lessons on using what I call the "Mercedes" of sewing machines. Macy's first quilt was amazing and I can see her winning ribbons in the future. Very talented and a real Cutie!

You should be able to move your cursor over the top of the NBC logo at the bottom right of the screen to see the volume control indicator (the logo will go away to shows video controls). Make sure that it is turned on to enable the sound.

What an inspiring story. As a Bernina owner, I am very happy to hear that that BERNINA, the dealer and the wonderful, caring nurses at your hospital, recognized your love of sewing and provided you with a "tool" that will last you a lifetime. Not only that, you were still thinking of others, when you made bags for other chemo patients. You are a true "quilter" because I have found that quilters have the biggest hearts of all - always thinking of others. May God Bless you Macy and may He bring you many years of happiness quilting for your family and others.

Congratulations , Macy. One day you may be Bernina's expert teacher of sewing techniques. Your first quilt is amazing, with my favorite 9 patch featured! Best wishes for a spectacular future In life and in quilting.
