We are testing a lot of new ideas and have recently had our first show of the year subtitled in Spanish. However, we really don't know how to test if it is done well. Do you know Spanish? Do you know a quilter who does? Please forward this link to them and have them review the show for us and tell us if the translation is a good one. No promises of languages yet, we are just in the exploration phase. Thank you for your help.

(Click on the Gear at the bottom of the video. Choose "Subtitles/CC" and then click to see Spanish.)

The Quilt Show has committed to translating this year in Spanish. We will need to see the popularity to decide to go forward after that. I just sent shows 2402-2404 (all that are ready) to be translated into Spanish. We continue to have all shows closed captioned in English.

The translation is OK to get by if you don't pay close attention but if you do because you don't know English you could find yourself saying, "Huh?" a few times. I found about 10 mistakes in the first 5 minutes. Some are not so important and some are unacceptable... for me. Using words that don't exist is a big "no" for me. Just because words go viral doesn't mean they exist. Also, translating phrases or sayings literally is a big mistake as it will leave the reader completely lost if they have to rely solely on the translation. Being completely bilingual there's not much that will escape my attention. Within the first 5 minutes there were also quilting terms that were not translated correctly even though there are terms for them in Spanish. As this is in the exploration phase as you say, it's a good place to "get it right" from the start. I think it's a great idea as there are many Spaniards, Mexicans etc who enjoy your show and would benefit greatly from this extra service.

A very good and easy to follow translation. My husband is from Mexico, and while regionally some words would be different here and there of course, he had no trouble following the show. He is also a professional sewing machine operator, and while not a quilter he does understand the concepts living with me for almost 20 years.

I am a Spanish teacher who has taught quilting (in Spanish) in Costa Rica. This is a very good translation. I would go with it.

Thank you so much for taking your time to review this. We have some hard decisions to make. Quilting is growing the world over and we can't afford to do 9 translations. But stay tuned. We are excited about moving forward.
