Not only are we getting ready for the holidays but we are also prepping for the next big Quilt Roadie Adventure which means... "Anna and G on the Road" actually hits the road. I have been prepping all kinds of projects, piecing, wool, Sashiko, embroidery and cross stitch. It came to my attention that my Bee Hive was turning into a dangerous place with all manner of sharp instruments lying around. I realized that I have a serious scissor addiction! Did I really need all these sharp instruments?

I wondered if the answer was in the history of scissors? It seems that in a previous pillow post, scissors also showed up in Mesopotamia 3,000-4,000 years ago! And, amazingly, there is a company in China that has been making scissors since 1663!!! Leonardo da Vinci has been credited with inventing scissors, but in fact scissors predate his life by many centuries...but, it is kind of cool to say you have Leonardo da Vinci scissors, LOL.

While trying to clean up my mess I took a closer look at the type of and how many scissors I really had...

The sharp implements I use the most are hung on a magnetic knife strip that I purchased from IKEA. It is convenient and they won't be banging around getting dull. The tools to the left of the photo were all throw aways from surgical kits back in my working days before recycling. They have come in handy for a variety of jobs, and some of them are not scissors but needle drivers and forceps. I love the spring loaded scissors for rag quilts and then there are my all time favorites...Kai scissors. They are made in Japan and have a fine serrated blade...perfect for cutting wool. The OLFA's with the yellow handles also have a serrated blade, but are better for larger pieces of wool rather than fine cutting. The curved duckbills were designed to cut curved cotton pieces for appliqué. Well, these are my go to scissors.

These are my drawer sharp implements. Two rotary cutters, one small, one regular...one pair of pinking shears and three regular scissors. And, yes, I have to admit that I also own five pairs of very small scissors that are in various stitching pouches. Now that I have laid it all out, I am feeling better...so tell me, how many scissors do you own????

I use a mug stand made by one of my daughters at school in woodwork, the scissors hang by their handles and are easy to see, colourful and safe out of the way.

Oh no, I had 35 sharp objects (scissors, rotary cutters, box cutter, seam rippers, ice pick, Xacto knife set). I reorganized it all and got rid of four items. :-)

Although I have never counted my scissors as they are everywhere but I do have a draw full and then all the ones scattered in different project cases and rotary cutters get there own separate draw , I have no idea why I have so many of them but I do

Funny, I was thinking about laying out all of my scissors to see if there were any I could give away. I'll let you know! :-*

I wallpaper for a living. When the current scissors are not working on wet wallpaper anymore, they are still excellent scissors for everything else. So they are in all of the drawers that they need to be in, around the house. After that, I give my excess to the local library.
They are always needing sharp scissors. Plus, of course, I have around 9 large and small scissors for cutting fabric and 3 rotary cutters.

When I cleaned out my parent's house (she was a seamstress and quilter), I found 80 pairs of left-handed scissors, and only 5 pairs of right-handed scissors. My mother was a seamstress and quilter, so she evidently purchased leftie tools whenever she could! I asked my dad what he did for scissors and he just mumbles something....

 I have a scissor fetish. I have multiple sewing projects each with their own scissors and thimbles. I have a couple of gift sets offered at Christmas which include pretty scissors and either a retractable tape measure or a thread cutter in a pretty box. I confess I am saving these for something as I have not used them. I do look at them but have not taken that big step of removing them from the box. I love the spring handle Fiskars and actually got replacements from Fiskars due to the spring not holding the blades closed. They do stand behind their products.

Guess owning lots of scissors goes with the territory of being a quilter and seamstress. I still have the first pair of scissors I got when I was 4 or 5 years old! Blunt nosed and child sized. Had a pair that my father etched my name onto when I took Home Ec in 7th grade. Over the years, I have given some away and had some of my better scissors stolen, so I no longer have the scissors with my name on them. Like you, I have several pairs of small scissors that are in different places/pouches for applique, etc. Don't have any that are serrated, but I probably have a total of 30 pairs. What is not to love about scissors?

Oh My....I think I have a serious scissor addiction too. I'm afraid to gather them all up to count. They are in every room, bathroom, kitchen, garage, in the cars, my purse, and in the sewing room. You don't have to walk far to find a pair of scissors in this house.
