The wildfire called the Spring Fire devastated the forest in and around the town of La Veta, Colorado. Ricky shares his experience in a chat with Alex with still images and video footage taken during the roller coaster ride of emotions that ensued over several days.

Ricky writes,

"This video is dedicated to Justin Shults who was the real hero protecting the priceless quilts and art, our company computers and files, and making sure the dogs were safe. He had to bear the work alone and he deserves a medal for determination and not giving into pressure. He texted, "I got this! This is what I do."

Ricky also wants to thank everyone who sent their love and support throughout this difficult situation.

On Monday, we will be sharing a timeline of the Spring Fire 2018 as told through Ricky and Justin's Text Messages and Photos. We will also be sharing a video that Ricky created of his first drive into the Yellowstone Creek Ranch fire zone going to Autumn Rock. It includes music he just recently composed and recorded in his new studio.

My thoughts are with you and Justin as you recover from this trauma. Your beautiful land is scarred, your hearts are deeply hurt, but you are healthy and safe...in the end, that's most important. Keep talking about the effect of this horrendous event. It's definitely part of the healing process. I look forward to seeing/hearing the art, quilts, and music that spring from this tragedy.

Thank you for sharing your heartache, grief and pain with us. It's one thing to see the news from Colorado on my tv in Michigan. It's more personal & painful hearing & seeing your story. As with any traumatic event in life, there will be a recovery period. So sorry for what you 2 have lost. Prayers for peace

You made a comment about not sure where you go from here. You will do what many others have done in the past..... you just go on. You can't change the past but you can deal with what you have and hopefully make things better, and as someone said, the rebirth after something devastating can be a good experience.

Living in San Diego, I too have had the fire come to the edge of our property and miraculously, our log home was spared through the hard work of our firefighters and crew! We have had to evacuate several times in several years...I know the uncertainty, anguish, and gratefulness that accompanies every fire on the horizon. Each year my nose is a great announcer of fires in the area. My heart goes out to those who have suffered such great loss in this fire and to those of you who are moving forward in that vast landscape to the next chapter in your book. Prayers are being said.

My heart is with you, Justin and all the people whose beautiful surroundings have been devastated. Like you, we went through a flood. As it is happening, and we were in the upstairs of the house whilst it surrounded us, spinning our vehicles in the driveway like toys in a bathtub and came in the first floor, one is not hysterical, but just watching it and knowing there is nothing one can do. It's the aftermath that gets you. You will have breakdowns for some time. Know we are out here thinking of you all and praying for you.
