Susan writes about her stunning quilt, Beacon,

"Circles, prisms, and light are part of my impression of an antique lighthouse lens and prism. I tried to capture a sense of light deep in the center refracting out, amplifying the candlelight into a beacon to keep sailors safe."

She conveys this impression by using a multitude of beads and buttons for a striking result. How many do you think she used?

This one feeds my addiction for buttons and beads. I simply love it.

I see quilting - for me that is a quilt. Sorry to see that not everyone agrees on the definition of "quilt". Many quilts are never used for bed coverings but kept on the walls - as in my home and others I've seen. This is some of the most beautiful beading and her vision is very obvious.

I agree with #3 - I don't consider that a quilt. It is a beautiful art piece - wall hanging. A lot of the buttons look antique.

Love it! It does reflect the light from the candle in the lighthouse. What a beautiful work!

I'm with Gerry...Any creation unsuitable for use as a quilt should not be called a quilt. Let's call them either a quilt or a wall hanging, especially in a juried show.

I wonder if each button had a significance. I love the color. And I can't imagine the time and effort it took to hand sew each button on. What a ingenious attempt

While it is an interesting piece of art, I wouldn't in my wildest stretches of imagination have called it a "quilt".
Wall art, yes, quit.. definitely not. But it is pretty, and no doubt took many many hours of beading to complete.
