"The Spirit of Flowers" by Quilter Mayumi Mutou

There is a lot going on in this wonderful quilt we saw at Houston 2017 by Mayumi Mutou. The Spirit of Flowers uses her favorite blocks and creates curves and circles throughout the quilt. Take a look at the fabrics too. Stand back for just a bit and let your eyes wander around the quilt. Whew! I'm tired just looking.

She deserves kudos for the amount of fine craftsmanship and stitchery that went into this piece. It is not my type of quilt, but I sure recognize the mastery of the art here. It is an amazing piece.

Just can't get excited about this quilt... I won't get technical about it, I just don't care for it although I do realize a LOT of work went into it.

This is an incredible quilt. I have no problem finding areas in this quilt for my eye to rest. Each of the floral bands gives that to me, as does the grey, red and black outer band. The hand quilting is so tiny as to be almost invisible. What a work of art.

If you enlarge the image you can see the hand embroidery, applique, quilting stitches (often within a little square and sometimes in the ditch). It is a fascinating piece. Love it. :roll:

I wish the quilt police would look at the art, the creativity and the technical expertise displayed here rather than whine about "not square" "no resting place" "no this or not that"

Would you criticize Monet for blurring his paintbrush strokes?
