Do you hate math? At the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, students are using their math skills and the art of sewing to create quilts. We wish they taught this when we were in school.
What a wonderful course. These young students are learning a lot more than applied mathematics. I am amazed how well they learned about color and its placement in a complex design; the use of a sewing machine; and their realization that they are learning an enjoyable life long skill. Their enthusiasm is heart warming. And this is only their first quilt! Hats off to their professor!
Good for the girls that they’re learning and enjoying, but that seems like middle school math to me, not math that is college level! Just for reference, I took precalculus in 12th grade here in NY in the late 1960’s and my kids took a similar program when they were in HS. Glad to see how quilting is being promoted.
