Elizabeth McDowell Heagy's quilt, Receiving Grace, was completed in a different manner, right down to the binding, of which, there is none. This beautiful quilt of an Echinacea was part of the Innovative Appliqué category in Houston 2018.

Elizabeth's quilt depicts a a moment of personal spiritual enlightenment.

This piece is so spectacular and unusual. Her techniques are unique, but still obviously stem from traditional "quilting". Whatever the art form is called, it is a piece that bounds miles ahead of it's respected and revered tradition, the 3-layer "sandwich". The bed quilt is our grandmother and we love her, but we strive to grow and reach beyond our beautiful beginningns. #9D, getting out of the box and forging ahead with creativity is a good thing. Elizabeth is a profound leader and positive example for quilt artists who press ahead and continue to grow and expand. Thank you, Elizabeth, for your fabulous work.

#9 Firstly I totally respect your opinion and thought I’d put my 2cents worth in also. Here in Australia we generally refer to these pieces as Art Quilts. Meaning they are a piece of art to hang but made in the tradition of quilting. It is a beautiful piece and an amazing amount of work. Congratulations to the artist.

Sorry, D, the generally accepted definition of a quilt nowadays is 'A quilt is a multi-layered textile, traditionally composed of three layers of fiber: a woven cloth top, a layer of batting or wadding, and a woven back, combined using the technique of quilting, the process of sewing the three layers together.' But does it REALLY matter whether the description is quilt, art quilt or fabric art??? This is a beautiful piece of work and took my breath away. My eyes were seduced whatever it is called.

I agree with #9. This is fabric art. And I love it! Very well done indeed!

Extraordinary. The entire flower is so real.
And #9D everyone is entitled to an opinion and need not be bashed for it.
