306 IMQE Partners and counting!

We did it and there are more US Quilters looking for International Partners!

What do Sylvia and Jeanette have in common? They have a lot in common!! They are both quilters, members of TheQuiltShow.com and are participants in the International Miniature Quilt Exchange. Not only have they exchanged email and learned about one another – they had the opportunity to meet at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, California. Despite personal challenges, they made the effort to meet and were thrilled to see each other.

We asked Sylvia and Jeanette, "What made their partnership so special?" Sylvia summed it up best:

The IMQE was my first effort to engage with other quilters from faraway places. Being matched with Jeanette from Devon, UK seemed prophetic, as one of my favorite places in the world is not far from her home! Admittedly, I was a bit intimidated by her long history of quilts and blue ribbons. When I learned she was going to see her juried quilt at Pacific International Quilt Festival, at her ill son’s urging, I just had to book a flight from San Diego to San Jose to meet her, at my ill husband’s urging. It seemed we were meant to meet. According to my husband, Lon, I relish a good challenge and needed to get past feeling intimidated. And I did.

Upon meeting, we were instantly bonded. It seems strange, but we both felt something had drawn us together...similar tastes in quilts, colors, techniques, travel, etc. Photos and email exchanges followed, and here we are. For my part, I feel so fortunate to have met Jeanette and her husband Malcolm. It is one of those unexplainable, yet ‘meant to be’ things. My quilting will be forever better thanks to this magical meeting. By the way, her quilt in the PIQF was beautiful. Thanks, IMQE!”

The key “take away” to any partnership is reaching out to each other, sharing ideas and staying in touch. We have 6 US Quilters looking to have the same experience as Sylvia. If you are an international quilter looking for a unique quilting experience – now is the time to join IMQE.

Quilters have until March 2018 to complete their miniature quilts.
