This quilt by Ayako Takaku was a joy to stand in front of at AQS QuiltWeek Spring Paducah 2017. It is another quilt that would have won an award at any other gathering, but there were so many great quilts that it didn't win. Wind Garden is 78" x 78" and is Hand Quilted, Hand Emboidered, and Hand Appliquéd. The appliqué is fantastic and the quilting mixed with leaves and vines is beautiful. We loved the small bird at the bird house. See below.

A masterpiece quilt. So tragic that it did not receive the recognition it deserves. Cannot imagine the amount of time put into just planning the quilt, then the long hours of hand work to create such a treasure.

Beautiful work on a true traditional quilt.

This quilt is stunning. A machine worked quilt can have as many hours in it and the artist can work as hard to have that quilt as beautiful but they are two totally different quilts. A machine appliqued quilt and a hand appliqued quilt may have the same concept but are approached very differently. I can not see how they can group machine and hand quilts together for judging, kind of a apple - orange thing. I do admire all these women and hope that in the future judging can be a little more fair to all.

This is a wonderful work of art. Hours of work go into any quilt ... I can't imagine the hours that went into the hand stitches (in addition to the beautiful design!) to create this work of art. Quilting has become complex in recent years .... hand quilted (in my opinion) deserves a separate class from machine quilted. Classes need to be sub-divided into "modern", traditional and "art" quilts. A judging headache for the volunteer judges but fairer for the individual quilter. Modern quilts with more negative space are no longer being passed over. We are no longer simply making utilitarian bed covers ... many are works of art like this beautiful quilt.

So beautiful, and exquisite workmanship. Gets "viewer's choice" from me :-)

To know this quilt did NOT win any prize is criminal ! This is the type of 'quilting' started years gone by as true work ... hand done/completed. There is no longer true competition in shows when the judges put machine work be it piecing and/or quilting before all else. This creator receives a GOLD star from me .... the work is just fantastic.

Just beautiful and not surprised it was done by a Japanese Quilter, they are the best with hand work and detail. They never fail to present a stunning piece of work.
