This is our guess as to how the Baltimore Album Quilt got started. It's only a guess:

1846--

Quilt Guild Member #1 - "Hey, Darlene is new in our group. Let's trick her. No not the Snipe thing, let's do a quilting thing. Let's tell her she has to do a special quilt."

Member #2 - "We live near Baltimore. Let's call it a Baltimore Album Quilt."

Member #3 - "Let's say it has at least 200 flowers and all the vines around the outside."

Member #1 - "Yes, of course flowers have to have vases. Then there are 16 blocks in the middle with 100-175 appliqued pieces in each block."

Member #2 - "Oh, and birds. There have to be a lot of birds."

Member #3 - "And at least one of the birds has to be holding a flag."

Member #1 - "Oh that is mean. And how about making it even worse? At least one block has to have a sailing ship with all the rigging."

Member #2 - "This is great. Then add 1000 half-square triangles. We need to remember to tell her next week that it was all a joke."

4 years later...

Member #1 - "Darlene says she brought her Baltimore Album Quilt for show and tell. Mary, didn't you tell her we were kidding?..."

Congratulations to Darlene Donohue on winning 3rd Place Wall Quilts - Movable Machine Quilted at AQS Paducah 2017 with her amazing quilt, "My Baltimore Journey" 86" x 86". No joke.

That is such a beautiful quilt. and it has so much movement in it. Every circle is perfect. Love the colors love the choice of design. And love you for taking the time energy and talent to finish it.

This is a very beautiful quilt, with lots of color and deep design. I'm trying to understand why it only took third. What was the judges comments on this quilt why it only brought third.

Frieda Pickett: AQS destinguishes whether the machine moves over the quilt or if the quilt is pushed around under the machine. This has replaced "longarm". Sit down longarms would be "Stationary".

Incredible. And it only won 3rd? Should have been #1 if I were judging.

Omg!!! Thank you all so much. The quilt took 4 years to complete and when it was all done I missed working on it.
