What happens the second Saturday in July...every year??? The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show!!! Which if you haven't heard...is the largest outdoor quilt show with over 1300 quilts on display for one day only! The show is viewed by over 10,000 visitors from all 50 states and over 27 countries. It was started in 1975 by a quilter with a vision, Jean Wells Keenan (Show 1301). There were about 12 quilts that first year and each year since, it has grown to be a bucket list show. The last few years the show has been guided by a Board of Directors with Jeanette Pilak, Executive Director. Jeanette is a hands on Executive Director!
Just envision...1300+ quilts...how do you check in and organize that many quilts? A boat load of volunteers! What is truly amazing is that the volunteers are not just locals. There are quilters from all over who come to volunteer in support of this show, so heart warming. There is a precise way that quilts are checked in, tagged and folded so as to not end up in the wrong place. Each quilt is treated like a family.
I dropped off a couple of sponsor quilts. My Sew Spooky and Great Granny Squares will be in the Sponsor category. These quilts are hung in businesses who are sponsors of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Next week I will drop off my quilt for the teacher's tent and the general show after I stitch those labels.
And, just to give you a taste of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show here is a stunning quilt that will be hung this year...now don't you want to come visit us!!!
Have a wonderful day and mark you calendar, second Saturday in July must go to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show!!!
Always so much to see and experience. Thanks for the tease!
