It's time for Part 1 of Zoo Nouveau!

It is a quilt-as-you-go project and Star Members can complete the entire project, or just a single section. You decide how much to make. The more you practice, the more you learn.

The first pattern installment begins today, May 5. Subsequent pattern installments will roll out every two weeks. In addition to downloading the pattern directions for each section, Ann Myhre will be there with video lessons to share tips and tricks for making the quilt.

This month's instructional video with Ann Myhre includes:

  • Fabric Selection
  • Background preparation including selecting and practicing a quilt design
  • Peacock appliqué preparation using freezer paper

Note: On the pattern, the peacock feathers are just to the edge of the page, if necessary, close the line drawing to complete the pattern.

We've also set up a brand new area in the Forum where Ann will be available to answer your questions. Click here to go to the FORUM.

For additional help with appliqué watch:

Show 110: A Quilter Connects with History - Pam Holland

This is a Star Member Project for practicing what you have seen in the shows. However, the Introduction is for everyone to view.

A limited number of kits for this project will be available in Ann's Etsy shop. Click here to purchase a kit

Hi all - the issue with the video is being researched and a whole discussion can be found on the forum for this project.

As far as the extra materials that you may find on each pattern section, please know that those are optional! You can work this entire quilt with cotton and it will be gorgeous. The whole concept in working intuitively or "as inspired" is to use what you may have on hand or can find easily (i.e., with the silk/velvet option, those are just other materials that I used and that you CAN use if you want.) No pressure to use anything other than what you already have. I hope that helps!

I have downloaded Part 1 and the Materials List, and watched the introductory video. I understand that there is a video to accompany each lesson but I can't find any video beyond the introductory one. Where is it to be found, please. Thank you so much. This looks like a great project!

I'm confused and a bit frustrated -- I printed off the fabric list when it first showed up and I got everything ready so I could jump right in. Now the instructions for part one call for assorted silks/velvets! Those weren't on the original list and aren't easy to come up with. Then, the directions call for felt wool, which isn't even in the materials list for month 1. Ready to give up.
