Most of you know that Quilter’s Apothecary (Jamie Wallen and company) had their truck stolen in Houston, TX, prior to Quilt Festival. All of their product and quilts were stolen. Only a fraction was recovered.

Here’s the latest update from the GoFundMe page that was set up for quilters to help them:

"Jamie and Rich have yet to finalize anything with their insurance company. They did not have Business Interruption Coverage and therefore will not be reimbursed for lost revenue at Houston Festival.”

The only thing covered was their trailer. Not their product or quilts.

With the support of loving and caring quilters, the GoFundMe page raised just over $40,000 which will go a long way to keeping Quilter’s Apothecary alive. What happens at Quilt Festival can easily be 1/3 of an annual income for some quilting businesses such as Quilters Apothecary. Their entire potential revenue was lost due to the theft of their trailer prior to the convention. Inside the trailer were all their products and many of Jamie Wallen's quilts — including client quilts. Erroneously, it was reported that the quilts had been recovered. Very few were actually recovered.

Jamie recently shared these thoughts with Ricky:

”After the Houston debacle, I don’t think we’d have come through [without the help of quilters]. We are peddling hard to recover professionally and now I am starting to think of what parts of my body of work I might recreate or leave behind in the past… I think the hardest part for me was being in a position in which “I’ was the receiver of help… I much prefer being the rescuer, rather than the rescuee. Life’s lessons are never/rarely fun, but ALWAYS humbling.” — Jamie Wallen

TQS praises the ever-loving and supportive spirit of quilters throughout the world. In times of need — quilters rise up.

Elaine Adair and other vendors, as I understand this did not happen AT the festival. Their trailer was stolen from a hotel parking lot where they were staying. The hotel as I understood it was not even in the same block as the Festival, therefore there is nothing the Festival could possibly do except help them after the fact as everyone who could has done so. No affiliation, but I was an attendee.

Sadly, it's happening more and more as people travel and stay in hotels/motels. What do we do? For one thing don't buy anything that you think might be stolen, If it seems too good to be true, report it to your local police.
Maybe opt for renting a motorhome with the space to carry a "motorcycle." Those would have ample room to carry supplies and also provide sleeping quarters so you are right there to prevent any theft.

Just a thought, we're any of the customers quilts covered by their personal insurance - should have been. Did the have a 100% inventory on everything - copy with them and copy at home - for insurance and coverage purposes?

Does Jamie have a physical store front, or insurance on a home that includes his business? May cover some of the contents of the trailer. I know they sometimes cover things stolen from a vehicle..not sure on a trailer...but since it was kept at his home/business.. .worth looking at.

I can only imagine that the thieves are ignorant of the true value of these magnificent quilts. If he is aware then the buyer would know that they are stolen.

Lets pray that whomever sees these works of art contacts Jamie and Rich.

Have photos of the quilts been posted anywhere?

Bless you for your gentle spirits and faith that good will come from this experience

I can't imagine how irritating the entire experience has been for you - if I was a vendor, I certainly would never visit Houston Festival. Certainly, better security should be a priority! I'm so sorry you suffered this enormous loss.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help Jamie and Rich, but is a huge wake up call for everyone else who travels to a big quilt show with a trailer full of their work and supplies. Make sure you have the correct kind of insurance to cover what you have along.

Words will never be able to express the amount of thanks and love we feel for the quilting community. You all surrounded us so much love, faith and courage at a time when we had very little. As we move forward we look to so many more years of living, laughing, loving and supporting the community that is our family.
