Captain John was prowling the floor of the International Quilt Festival in Houston when he saw "Sakura" by Masako Sakagami of Japan and it stopped him in his tracks. It is made from silk kimono cloth and cotton and contains machine piecing, appliqué, embroidery, and embellishment. Those black sections in the borders are actually openings in the quilt. (Capt'n John: "You have to see this quilt in person. The subtle pinks and purples don't show well in the picture. The details are actually overwhelming. It's one of those quilts you have to stand and look at for awhile to see all the different aspects.")

The imagination of this artist to create such an intricate and beautiful piece is both inspiring and overwhelming.

The details in the thread work is very well done. Good color and balance of the flowers. So glad to be able to see this on line!
