My visit with Sylvia Pippen was like meeting a rock star! I have been a fan for a couple of years after a friend in Pacific Grove recommended Sylvia's class at the Empty Spools seminars.  I enjoyed Sylvia's class so much that I became a Sashiko groupie...and a fan of Sylvia's patterns.  I am currently working on one of her BOMs and have throughly enjoyed the process of yet another handwork project. When I met Sylvia she was living on Hilo and was in the process of moving to La Conner, Washington where her mother Kitty Pippen lived.  Kitty is also an amazing artist and many of the pieces you will see in the slide show were pieced and stitched by Kitty.  Like mother, like daughter...the talent runs deep and they have taught together at Empty Spools.  Both are published authors of Asian-inspired quilts and the relationship is one of mutual artistic support.

I feel so lucky to have visited Sylvia when she was working on her latest BOM to be released this Fall!!!  This next BOM is stunning!!! I know I will be participating in this next BOM adventure as it incorporates not only Sashiko but appliqué.  The photos do not do it justice! But, as you can see in the photo there are wonderful ocean inspired motifs and multiple colors of Sashiko thread. The BOM will include not only the thread but the awesome fabrics that she used while creating this wonderful piece.

 These close ups show you the amazing decisions that go into the fabric choices, stitching and placements.  I can't wait for this BOM to start which means I had better finish my other Sashiko project...I'm getting close!  Be sure to check out the Quilt Roadies You Tube channel today for the interview with Sylvia Pippen in La Conner, Washington.
