If you are one of Mark Lipinski’s “cupcakes,” then you already know something about his medical saga, including his new kidney he calls "Beyonce."  What you may not know is that Mark became very ill recently and was hospitalized for a number of months.

It was eventually determined that a fungus, which had lain dormant for decades, was responsible for his fevers and chills, and with his immune system compromised, the fungus threatened his life. With amazing care and powerful drugs, Mark has returned home with a hopeful prognosis for the new year.  However, he's had to cancel many months of book and writing assignments, leaving him with financial difficulties.

Now, thanks to some very good friends, Meg Cox and Liza Prior Lucy, a GoFundMe campaign has been started for Mark to help with his enormous medical expenses.

I so enjoy Mark's style and attitude. Transplant patients are always in a dangerous and scary dance between their immune system, their new organ, and the unseen world of microbes, fungi, and bacteria. Any one of these can take out the rest, leading to untold suffering and massive medical debt. With our help, Mark can recover free of worry over the bills and loss of income his illness has wrought.

I think it is important for other to know, people that are self employed such as artists, often do not have insurance. It is so costly to obtain health insurance, especially the kind for serious extended problems, that they just have to g without and hope for the best. It is sad that it is so, but that is the way it is. Being left from an extreme illness is devastating, not only physically and emotionally, but financially. Everyone needs help sometime and it is so important that we all do what we can to be supportive of each other. Everyone's new year can be so much more joyful if we just put someone else ahead of our own needs once in a while.

Mark is such an enthusiastic, joyful person. We are so glad he is on the road to recovery and were honored to help in a small way. Good luck, Mark!
