Which kind of quilter are you? Vote below.

Previously we asked how you stored your stash, what's on your design wall, and how do you quilt your quilts? This week we are actually looking at 3 kinds of quilters (maybe even 4). This week we want to know how you baste your quilts. Thread baste? Spray baste? Pin baste? OR Don't baste at all?

I thread baste when I hand quilt. I pin baste when I am quilting on my domestic machine. I don't baste when I quilt with my longarm. You really have to distinguish the type of quilting when you ask this question.

I quilt on my longarm ---no basting required!

We board base our quilts. Check on youtube for video.

Val - It takes a little time and patience - It takes about 3 - 5 seconds to melt the product. Please no steam and use sparsely. The hotter the iron the more permanent it becomes

I haven't been able to get the Quilters' Select product to fuse as I would like even though I've followed the directions precisely. Any suggestions?

Yes, I thread baste, but I have a granddaughter that makes t-shirt quilts, and she uses the Free Fuse. However, we discovered that it works great with 80/20 type batting, but not so well with polyester or wool batting.

My choice wasn’t there. I use Elmer’s washable glue.

Depends on the project. Usually spray on smaller quilts and both spray and pin on larger projects

I pin baste. I use straight pins to which I put a foam ear plus over the end of the pin to protect it from poking me. (can buy in bulk on line) When I
quilt on my sewing machine I can simply pull them out and pick up the plugs later -- saves my fingers from opening and closing safety pins.

A question came up about Free Fuse (which is new to the game). It is a super light weight poly powder. It does stay in - but that said, because you use it so sparingly it is a complete non issue. Also, it will not gum up the needle. It has magic super powers - LOL
