Thanks to TQS Member, Carol Moellers, for the photo. The image was taken at the opening of one of Ricky's concerts. He wore his Buchanan tartan kilt, as his McWhorter roots (his Granny's maiden name) is a sub sect of Buchanan.

Below in a 7-minute video are the details for making a modern kilt. It takes more than 8 yards of fabric and 8 hours of time for a single kilt to be created by a master kilt maker. Did you know there are "secret bits?"

If you would like a kilt made up, take a look at www.thekiltstore.com or give them a call at 00 44 131 660 3451.

Note: $1 is worth .762029 British Pounds as of July 31, 2018.

What's with all the moving, bouncing, and split-apart pictures? Just makes me dizzy. I'd rather see a longer video with more complete steps shown. and lose the background "music"--it's AWFUL! I finally had to mute it.

I went to the kilt makers place in Inverness, Scotland recently. There you can only see the steps they happen to be working on in front of you. They are behind glass, so no explanations. I'm still left with many questions after viewing your video. What is cut out of the kilt? Where is the canvas placed? How about the lining? A narrated version of this would be wonderful. I guess I'll look on YouTube.

One American dollar may be worth 0.762029 British pounds, but one Canadian dollar and one Australian dollar sure aren't!

(Please remember your international members.)

Hey, Ricky, maybe we are related. I am a McWhirter, our family is from Ayrs and Paisley. The moment I saw that Buchannan tartan, I knew we were clan cousins.

Soon as I saw Ricky's picture I thought "That's a Buchanan plaid!" My married name. Does this mean Ricky and my husband are distantly related--I sure hope so!!! :-) I've had the fabric a few years now. Maybe this video will motivate me to get sewing.

Really happy to see this.....our guild has had a male kilt wearing, long arm quilter for several years now! We are very proud of Les and his wife Elaine as they organized the QOV program in our area. Thank you for all you do there.

A LOT of work - very interesting - would have enjoyed traditional Scot music instead of the upbeat twist.
