3268_iphoto9.jpgDid you know that you can run fusible web through your printer?  That's right, if you have an ink-jet printer, you can put an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of fusible through the printer.  This way you can copy your designs right onto the fusible.  No more tracing!

The trick is to attach the sheet to a regular piece of paper using double- sided tape.  You don't need much, just tack down the corners.  Then, go ahead and print away.

DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A LASER  OR THERMAL PRINTER.

YOU'LL GET A GLUEY MESS!

It's time to think about planning that vacation.  You always go to a quilt show, why not try something new, what about a quilting cruise? Some of you have never been on a cruise and some of you have vast knowledge of the life at sea.  Let's see you spread some of that knowledge around.  Head on over to the Forum: Board index  SCRAP BAG  Quilt Shows, Vacations & Retreats and click on Quilting Cruises.  Tell us where to go, what to do and who to know.  Let's get this ship out of port.

Are you a "Modern" quilter?  According to The Modern Quilt Quild,  "Modern quilting is a new twist on the traditional art of quilting. This may mean something as simple as using a traditional quilt block and updating it in a fresh fun new way. That includes using modern fabrics, modifying the block arrangement or even the scale of the block.   The piecing could be improvisational and wonky, or it could be very exact and measured, following a pattern or creating your own. The quilting could be traditional stippling, clean straight lines or a very “free” have fun, quilt as you go style. Fabrics could be upcycled vintage sheets, custom digital printed fabric, a yummy selection from one of the new modern fabric designers, or an old fabric from an ever growing stash."

So, what do you think?  Are you a modern quilter and what makes you so?  Submit a comment and let TQS know.

3088_img_0157.jpgMemory quilts have been around for a very long time. Whether it was to commemorate a marriage or a baby, quilters have wanted to send good wishes through their quilts.

Have you ever made a "signature" quilt. Was it a group effort where you sent blocks around the country and had them signed by all the relatives? Did you hand blocks out at a wedding and have the guests sign them? What pattern did you use when you put the blocks together? Did you include photos?  Submit a comment and share your signature with TQS.

3086_img_0155.jpgLet's talk about binding.  Everyone has a different method, what's yours?  Do you use a single fold, or a double-fold of fabric? Do you make your own or buy it at the store?  Do you cut straight strips, or is it always on the bias? Do you attach it as a single piece or miter each corner separately?  Do you hand stitch or machine stitch the binding to the quilt?

Submit a comment and give us the goods on your favorite binding method.

3077_dock7.jpgWe all know quilters like 100% cotton fabric, but what else have you used to create a quilt aside from cotton fabric? Have you ventured into silks and satins? How about copper wiring and beads? Paper or plastic?

What other materials have you used to make your quilting masterpiece?
