Can you guess who has a birthday today?
He wears a hat. Which he sets in the strangest places.
He knows how to quilt. (Winterlude)
And he plays this instrument.
Did you guess? It's our own caveman quilter, Ricky Tims! Happy Birthday Ricky!

The April 1st deadline for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Triangles Exchange is right around the corner. If you haven't mailed your package yet, please get them in the mail as soon as possible.
If you are outside the U.S., you may want to consider airmail or another priority delivery option if you think it will take more than a couple of weeks to arrive. All of the information for mailing your packages, including the P.O. box address, is posted in the 2nd post on the 1st page of the Chapter 2 - Sisterhood Forum.
There is also important updated information, photo included, about the best way to package your HSTs to save you time & money and also to help us on sorting day. That post is on Page 50 of the Forum.
International members, please contact Clara Lawrance (screen name ClaraLawrence) to make PayPal arrangements. Be sure to review the 1st Page of the Forum that explains how many HST's fit into the International Flat Rate Boxes/Envelopes. That is the ONLY method we will use to send your HST's back to you. No need to include a return envelope, just an address label(or two) along with a copy of your PapPal receipt.
And do remember to send Debbie (screen name NaneeWolf) an email through her Profile Page (no Private Messages, please) so she'll know they're on their way. She will send you a reply email once they arrive.
Textiles by their very nature have been considered worthy of saving, and recycling, throughout the world for centuries. Unlike today, prior to modern technology, a large wardrobe of clothing was only attainable for those with status or great wealth. In general the production of clothing was a long and labour intesive process. Thus, every piece of clothing was considered precious and worthy of keeping-but not just for quilting. Read more about producing and recycled clothing here...
The Textile Museum's newest exhibit, Second Lives-The Age-Old Art of Recycling Textiles, features an astounding collection of 're-purposed' clothing from their permanent collection worthy of making anyone take a second look at what could be done with their out of fashion wardrobe. If you happen to be in the Washington, DC area during the next year, you just might want to add this exhibit to your itinerary. The show runs through January 8, 2012. For more info on the exhibit click here.
In Show 805: Feed Sacks, Fun, and Old Friends: Quilts of the 1930s, Alex and Ricky visited with Darra Williamson and Christine Porter. Formerly Co-editor of British Patchwork & Quilting magazine, Christine is now a freelance writer and her quilts are mostly inspired by mediaeval and Victorian tile designs. Her latest book is "A Year in the Life of Sunbonnet Sue" with Darra Williamson. Today Christine is sharing a bit of her quilts and a peek at her stash. Come along a take a look.
And now, for your viewing pleasure, it is Part 2 of America Collects Quilts - Patriotic Quilts from the Collection of Cindy Rennels. This exhibition at the International Quilt Festival in Houston was so large that we broke it into two parts. You'll see some lovely examples of antique patriotic quilts collected by Cindy over the years.

Have you always wondered how you get clean up your stash, your UFOs, and your extra supplies, while helping someone in need? Here is your opportunity.
In May 2011, a second iteration of IB♥L3D (Iraqi Bundles of Love) will be under way. Managed by Art La Flamme, IB♥L3D is a program designed to get supplies where they are needed in Iraq.
What do they need? They need fabric, sewing supplies, UFOs, basically any type of raw sewing materials that can be used to make something by hand or machine.
Simple fabric is good. Stripes work, too. Scissors are OK. Ditto for needles -- yes, knitting needles, too. Fabric is far more likely to be used for clothing than for quilting, but that's not an absolute. To see more details about what to send, click here.
Basically a bundle consists of a large, flat rate to APO box (they cost $12.50) filled with fabrics and supplies. There is a specific way to pack the box, click here for details.
To participate in the program, you'll need to go to the Iraqi Bundles of Love website and leave a comment, click here to go to the website.
