In recognition of the Royal Wedding of William and Kate, TQS presents a selection of wedding and anniversary quilts made by our creative TQS members.  This is just a small sampling of the over 200 wedding and anniversary quilts that can be found in the TQS Quilt Gallery.  Every single one of these quilts has a great story behind it and if you want to learn the story (like why a wedding quilt has an elephant on it), you can search the quilt gallery by the name of the quilt and/or its maker.

If you want to learn more about the quilt that Alex made for Joey and Shelly, click here.

Best of Show 2010-Sunset and Sandhill Cranes by Joanne Baeth

Sunset and Sandhill CranesThe Denver National Quilt Festival VI opens today, April 28 and runs through May 1.  It will be held at the Denver Merchandise Mart.

There will be many special exhibits including Bonnie Leman's Anniversary Sampler created in 1994 in anticipation of the Quilter's Newsletter Magazine's 25th Anniversary.  Forty-nine of Bonnie's friends contributed to the large center blocks including those by Paula Nadelstern, Jinny Beyer, Nancy Crow. The sixty border blocks were made by her children, other family members, and the staff of Leman Publications.  Since it was a group project, there were a few problems along the way, but all was resolved and the quilt was presented to Bonnie on the anniversary date of September 21st. This quilt was a complete surprise to Bonnie and she kept it displayed in her home for the rest of her life. You won't want to miss seeing this quilt.

Teachers this year include: Bobbie and Joel Bergquist, Debora Konchinsky, Dierdra McElry, Jeananne Wright, Karen Turchan, Marjan Kluepful, and Pepper Cory.  And as always, there will be vendors galore.

(P.S.  Keep your eyes open, you might run into TQS Editors Lilo Bowman or Mary Kay Davis loose on the show floor.)

3748_ann_fahl_s_online_art_quilt_studio.pngIf you like quilts or cats, you'll love this little book,  A Black and White Tale. Ann Fahl and Jacquie Scuitto first started to work on this project in 2006.  Ann already had quite a few quilts about her cat Oreo and she needed a story line to pull them all together.  Jacquie Scuitto the quilt muse, was just the person for the job.

Five years later Ann became a publisher and the book a reality. The story follows Oreo through her daily routine;  breakfast, her morning bath, taking a walk in the garden, and guess where she gets a drink of water? This full color book shows each of 34 quilts in beautiful detail, down to the beads. At the end of the book there are descriptions and back stories of each quilt. This is an entertaining book, small is size, yet packed full of 10 years of quilt making. It is a perfect gift for yourself or another quilter.

You may remember Ann's appearance on Episode 111 – The Purrfect Quilt. She brought many of these quilts with her but left Oreo the cat at home. Each one of the quilts can also be seen in the cat gallery on her website, where the book can be purchased.  You can also find Ann's blog by clicking here.

See Ann's Show right now with your membership.  Ann's show and David Taylor's show will both be added to your membership when you renew before April 30.

Colorado is Ricky Tims' current home and he made sure that Alex visited the Garden of the Gods Park.  Lilo also is from Colorado Springs and told Alex to bypass the T-shirts in the front of the Trading Post and head right for the good stuff in the back.

Alex & John both found "rocks" they were interested in.
