The Quilters are going to take over Manhattan again to support The Alliance for American Quilts.  The event will take place at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.

Mark Lipinski will lead off the event with his talk "Mark Lipinski Explains It All to You."

The day will include a live Quilter's S.O.S. - Save Our Stories oral history interview with Denyse Schmidt.

Selected quilts from the the Alliance's "Home is Where the Quilt is" contest will be displayed at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the rest will be exhibited at The City Quilter.

Door prizes, goody bags and a special silent auction of products donated by their generous sponsors will round out the event.

There will also be a Quilters Take Manhattan: After Dark in the loft home of Victoria Findlay Wolfe, co-founder of the New York CIty Metro Area Modern Quilt Guild, in the NYC Garment District. This cocktail fundraiser will feature and celebrate the full spectrum of quilting and quilters today.  Tickets are limited and going fast.

While Ami Simms does amazing work with the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, (Keep your eyes open on FaceBook for the instant they receive their 10,000th donated Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt. They are less than 75 quilts from that milestone. SEE BELOW. They've also just funded another research study!) she occasionally decides to have a little fun.  Right now that fun includes dyeing underpants.

Here's what Ami has to say about this particular enterprise, "This all began several many ago when I first began hand dying fabric. I couldn't see wasting even a single drop, so I quickly looked around for some small item to throw in there with the fabric. Underpants. Steve asked me to quit dying his, but I continued to dye my own every time the weather warmed up and I took the dye buckets outside. It was a great way to emotionally cast off the gray skies and cold temperatures of winter and celebrate spring. And color. Lots of color.

Several years ago I mentioned this in my blog and created the Yo-Yo Sisterhood of the Traveling Panties so others could celebrate spring with me."

There are a few rules, you'll want to visit Ami's website to see how you can join the Sisterhood.

UPDATE: AAQI Receives
