Alex was recently the Special Guest Quilter at the Auburn Quilt Show in Auburn, CA.  It was a beautiful day in this "vintage" Northern California town and lots of folks arrived to see the many wonderful quilts on display. Held by the Foothill Quilters Guild, their 2012 Quilt Show theme was "30 Years in Review."

The Guild has some fun ideas about displaying the quilts such as including a picture of the quilter along with description of the quilt and decorating the clothespins that held the labels.

Here is just a portion of the quilts in the show, grab a cup of coffee, there is lots to see!

Here is the front of the Quilt.  It's Radiance by Susan Stewart.  See the back below.  It could have won a prize itself.

The Paducah Quilt Show opened with flair!  Watch for the quilt mob and all the smiles.  Ricky was able to catch this on his iPhone.  (It's okay.  We are all authorized this time.)

To get to downtown Paducah you walk along the Ohio River. There are special wall murals.  (Although you may have to look fast.)

We've heard from our Grand Prize Winner, Ruth Perkins, about the exciting delivery of her brand new BERNINA 550 QE.  Here's what Ruth had to say,

I wanted to send you an update.

I was able to pick up the BERNINA 550 QE
last Thursday -it was great fun to track it's moves from the midwest to
Tacoma! I had a bit of a delay when it was plugged in and just hummed at
me. Very easy fix- it was the bobbin winder that had gotten bumped when
taken out of the box. Oh well, just like all new items, it takes a bit of
time to get to know it and the staff at the shop were well familiar with
this, so I was up and running in no time.

I have been working with it this weekend. It is great fun taking a basket
of quilt squares and put them together. This was much faster than
starting a new project and I was anxious to just get going. It sews
beautifully! I love the light source!!! I have become well acquainted
with the BERNINA websites that are provided for the 550 and the
accessories, the tutorials are especially clear and easy to understand.

I am still in awe in winning such a wonderful gift. I feel truly blessed.
Thank you to BERNINA USA and especially The Quilt Show for providing its
members with contests, entertainment, education, and the shared love of
Quilting. It was the first online website I subscribed to and I look
forward to many years to follow!

In appreciation,
Ruth Perkins

Maybe one day, we'll get to see one of Ruth's quilts made on her new machine.  Congratulations Ruth!

Have you purchased a Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt?  If you have, the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) would like to see a photo of it posted on YOUR status update.  They hope to do this every Friday.  You can start today!

Here's what Ami Simms has to say,

You’ll be seeing this photo on the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative Facebook page on Friday.

Why the preview? Because I’m hoping you’ll join me and other AAQI supporters by sharing a photo of one of YOUR Priority: Alzheimer’s Quilts on YOUR status update.

It’s a great way to get people excited about buying quilts. And quilt sales mean research dollars to fight Alzheimer’s. Plus you get to brag what a good shopper you are.

This is one of the quilts I purchased. “What Is She Thinking?” is an incredible rendition of the Mona Lisa in cloth. It was  made by Bobbie McClure Long from East Stroudsburg, PA, and donated to the AAQI back almost 5,000 quilts ago. (If you haven’t heard, we just received our 10,000th donated quilt!)

You can see a much better picture here. Read Bobbie’s Artist Statement and you’ll know why we need to end this disease.

I hang quilt #6079, and several others, on the doors that hide the mess in the cabinets above my desk. I smile my own Mona Lisa smile, but you don’t have to wonder what I’m thinking:

I’m tickled pink to own this quilt and know that the money I paid for it helped support Alzheimer’s research.

If you don’t yet own a quilt of your own from the AAQI, we know how to fix that. You can buy one here:

http://www.alzquilts.org/quiltsforsale.html

All AAQI profits fund Alzheimer’s research.

Thanks for your support, and I hope to see one of the quilts YOU purchased on Facebook on Friday.
Ami :)

It's springtime in France, so that means it must be time for the annual Pour L'Amour du Fil International Textile Show in Nante.

The show, which runs this year from April 18 - 21, prides itself on presenting visitors with outstanding needleart creations from Europe and around the globe.

Join us for a tour of the show as seen through the eyes of Dutch quilt curator Dini Bouwers-de Zwart

You may even spot some work by a recent TQS guest (Sue Spargo-#810).  From its charming "little house" settings to it unique stitched items, this show is a "wonderland of work."
